Sr Paralegal - Litigation Job at Newpark Resources
THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR NEWPARK'S HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE
The Senior Paralegal, Litigation and Records Management, will be responsible for supporting Newpark’s Legal team and will report directly to Liz Knower. This position has varying responsibilities interacting with senior leadership, department managers, internal clients, and external parties while supporting internal counsel.
Candidates must be able to work within and in furtherance of the organization’s core values of Safety, Integrity, Respect, Excellence and Accountability. This legal position will assist internal counsel in the management of disputes, litigation, regulatory matters, and investigations; support the Company’s information governance, data privacy, electronic discovery and litigation hold initiatives as well as other duties.
Essential Functions
Litigation
- Support internal counsel in all stages of litigation or investigation including negotiation and resolution of pre-litigation disputes, management of lawsuits, responses to demand letters, subpoenas, regulatory inquiries, and investigations.
- Draft and file basic legal documents and response letters.
- Communicate with opposing parties and outside counsel as needed.
- Support counsel in the discovery process including managing litigation holds and the e e-discovery process including drafting of hold notices, performing custodian interviews, collection and preservation of information potentially relevant to litigation or investigation
- Drafting and responding to discovery requests and subpoenas, collecting and reviewing documents, and tracking of document productions
- Maintain case file, litigation calendars and monitor case docket
- Develop internal system to track information and assist with document organization, review, and analysis
Records and Information Management
- Work closely with Newpark Records and Information Team to ensure that records are retained in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements and that the Corporate Records and Information Management initiatives align with e-discovery and litigation management initiatives.
- Assist in reconciling requests for record destruction with litigation and litigation hold initiatives.
- Assist in management of offsite physical records including the management of the offsite records vendor.
- Monitor changes in statutes and regulations affecting requirements set forth in the NRI Records Retention Schedule.
- Assist in Records and Information Management training and compliance initiatives.
- Assist in maintaining a data map as required by the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
Data Privacy Initiatives
- Work with business leaders to develop or enhance legal strategies around data privacy, data security, information technology and other areas.
- Assist in the monitoring of changes in Privacy and Data Protection laws and regulations globally, work closely with HR to ensure compliance
- Assist in Drafting and negotiating Data Protection Agreements with vendors as needed.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Paralegal Certificate
- 6 years' experience as a litigation paralegal
- Strong Organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Strong writing skills and that ability to draft complex legal documents
- Must have in depth knowledge of GDPR and other data privacy regulations.
- Must have in-depth experience electronic discovery processes.
- Must have experience in Information Governance/ Records and Information Management field.
- Must have excellent conflict management skills.
- Must have a high degree of professional ethics and integrity.
- Must have the ability to work independently with minimal oversight, with the judgment to know when to raise concerns that require further attention.
- Must demonstrate a positive, team-oriented approach to the task at hand and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies to work toward appropriate, risk-based solutions.
- Must have strong interpersonal, writing and communications skills; ability to work cross-functionally and with diverse teams; ability to clearly articulate and present advice to internal clients
- Ability to proactively identify and solve complex problems and to think strategically and beyond existing solutions and frameworks.
