Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to provide training, coaching, professional development, and influential leadership to support the instruction of students in the Advanced Skills Training (AST) course. The Advanced Skills Training course (AST) is an AFSOC-unique formal training course providing world-class upgrade and mission qualification training for Special Tactics operators before their assignment to Special Tactics operational units worldwide. This position is located at Hurlburt Field, Florida.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide pipeline qualification training for Combat Controller (CCT), Special Reconnaissance (SR), Tactical Air Control Party (TACP), and Pararescue (PJ) personnel.
- Provides expertise and skillsets, as required to the career field training program. Additionally, administer mission qualification training to all Special Tactics operators.
- Provide information, background experience, and other services necessary for each student to successfully complete each block and phase of training IAW STTS directives and operating instructions. Assignment entails identifying training requirements, development and use of training aids, and various methods and techniques of instruction. Effectively apply specialized subject matter knowledge in course instruction.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High School Diploma required.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in the Special Reconnaissance operations
- Special Tactics operator and graduate of the USAF Special Reconnaissance Course or 5 years' current SR experience in SOF sister service and a graduate of one of the following courses: USAF Special Reconnaissance (SR) Course, Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course (RSLC), Reconnaissance Team Leader Course (RTLC), MARSOF Technical Surveillance Cyber Course (MTSCC).
- SOF/Special Warfare or Rescue experience required min 5 years
- A Secret level security clearance is required.
Preferred Skills
- Instructors to have been trained as a combat diver to assist with pre-scuba training, is preferred.
- Instructor with a military background in Special Operations Forces (SOF) Special Warfare or Rescue is preferred.
- Instructors shall be able to effectively convey their Special Operations expertise to the students in the academic environment (both during classroom and field conditions).
Physical Demands
- Handle munitions and small arms when instructing students. Instructors may demonstrate weapons fire on light and heavy weapons systems and shall ensure safe training operations.
- Perform rope-master duties during mock tower and actual aircraft training for safe student training.
- Perform small/large maritime duties and open-water swimming to support amphibious operations training.
- Fly and infil/exfil with students into and out of field training exercises via any military fixed/rotary wing aircraft.
