      Under direct supervision, performs sorting of mail (letters, magazines and packages) received through the United States Postal Service and interoffice mail; receives and forwards packages delivered to the Receiving Area of the college; and other clerical and data entry tasks.
     
    
     Examples of Duties
    
 
    
    
      A. Receives, sorts, and distributes college mail to all departments.
     
     
       B. Processes all classes of mail, including first class, first class presort, bulk/standard rate, media book rate, certified/return receipt, priority, express, etc.
     
     
       C. Processes envelopes and packages using services of the United Parcel Service, Federal Express, and other carriers.
     
     
       D. Answers department telephones and directs calls to staff or takes messages.
     
     
       E. Answers calls and sends messages through the department's radio and paging systems.
     
     
       F. Performs recycling duties by collecting mixed paper from special bins set up for just such a purpose in designated locations within the college buildings.
     
     
       G. Greets and assists students, KCC employees, and the general public.

       A. Performs other duties as assigned.
     
     
       B. May perform clerical duties such as: light typing, filing, and data entry.
     
     
       C. May perform shipping duties using either the USPS or UPS.
     
     
       D. Responds to the functions of the position in an environmental setting which might include cold, heat, odor, dampness, dirt, fumes, dust, oil, grease, noise, or vibration on a frequent basis. Appropriate protective devices are available as required.
     
    
     Minimum Qualifications
    
 
    
    
      A. High school diploma or equivalent required.
     
     
       B. Able to lift up to 52 lbs. with or without an accommodation, required.
     
     
       C. Able to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, required.
     
     
       D. Able to interact with others in a professional manner.
     
     
       E. Must be a current student at Kankakee Community College enrolled in six or more credit hours during fall or spring semesters. For summer employment, student must be enrolled in three or more credit hours in the summer term and/or six or more credit hours during fall semester.
     
     
       F. Student is required to read and agree to the KCC Student Employment Agreement.
     
     
       G. Federal Work-Study students should also read and agree to the program rules and regulations.
     
     
       H. Work schedule and hours may vary and are determined by each department's need. Maximum of 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. Maximum of 29 hours when classes are not in session or during the summer.
     
     
       I. Qualified candidate must be functionally literate in reading, writing, and computation skills as well as computer literate or willing to learn.
