The Student Services Program Manager works within the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (OSLE) to provide quality educational, social and leadership programming that supports the mission of the University. OSLE is a dynamic office that promotes co-curricular student involvement and leadership development while implementing campus activities, and traditions. As a supporting member of OSLE, the Program Manager will plan and monitor high-impact and comprehensive programs and activities while serving as primary advisor to the campus programming board. Additionally, the Student Services Program Manager is charged with managing key efforts that will promote the leadership dimensions of campus life. This position must have knowledge of current standards and best practices in student programming, advising, supervision and management.
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
- Plan and monitor comprehensive and high-impact programs and events as assigned. Events include, but are not limited to, Homecoming, Welcome Days, Spring Fling, etc.
- Act as a liaison between students, administrative staff, faculty, vendors and community members to facilitate the success of student programs
- Strategically guide student leaders in the development and implementation of diverse and dynamic programming
- Devise and deploy plans for student program evaluation
- Arrange and conduct planning meetings
- Maintain a safe experience for students, staff, volunteers, and program participants through an active risk analysis and review of legal documents
- Research, design and implement best practices for co-curricular and student leadership development programming
- Serve as an advocate for students, student organizations, and affinity groups
- Develop and initiate office forms and procedures
- Propose and enforce policies that affect student program performance standards of accountability
- Compose correspondence as needed
- Manage financial processes and the development of budgets
- Collect data and prepare reports as needed
- Assist in the development and implementation of leadership development institutes/programs
- Provide the Director of Student Leadership and Activities with administrative support
- Manage the annual registration process of 60+ student organizations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Additional Responsibilities Include:
- Schedule and approve events in the Event Management System
- Be responsible for the privacy of student organization and departmental records
- Conduct assessment and make data-informed decisions for program growth
- Late night and weekend work required. Must be flexible
- Hire and supervise student workers
- Coach, mentor and motivate student leaders in event planning
- Participate in University committees and attend meetings and events, as needed.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for student organizations.
- Be present at high-impact programs and events
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred).
- A minimum of three (3) years professional experience in a college/university setting or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above duties
- Ability to perform under work-related pressure due to short deadlines, high volume of work, etc.
- Proficient at time management, proven organization skills and extremely attentive to detail with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated experience in the use of computer applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint, etc.)
- Proficient in using technology as a management-reporting tool and experience working with information technology staff to develop and implement program evaluation systems
- Demonstrated success developing and evaluating program models and successfully operationalizing innovative programs
- Strong project management skills managing complex, multi-faceted projects
- Strong planning and implementation skills, including problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- General knowledge of student development/leadership theories and the ability to apply them appropriately.
- A demonstrated commitment to the development of diverse student populations
- Budgeting and organizational skills to ensure compliance with university standards and policies
- Ability to work effectively and ethically with a diverse population of students, university faculty, administrators, and community members
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which will include nights and weekends
