Job Description

We are looking for a Student Support Specialist to provide support in a wide range of student and safety support processes at the Village Ranch Alternative Program Care and Treatment School. This 182-day school year contract position will be responsible for implementing and assisting with behavior support plans, developing intervention strategies, and monitoring student progress. The Student Support Specialist will provide support to students who are having behavioral dysregulation - assessing the situation, meeting with the student(s) and developing and monitoring plans. The position is responsible for providing consultation to school personnel regarding student needs, staff and student safety, and assisting with behavioral interventions. The student support specialist will meet with students individually and in groups to address behavior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide support to staff to address student behaviors and safety. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Acts as lead of the school crisis team
  • Provides support to classrooms when there is a student who becomes dysregulated
  • Assist school staff to de escalate situations
  • Collaborates with staff to implement student behavior plans
  • Analyze data on student behavior and make recommendations to the team
  • Assist with monitoring student behavior progress
  • Provide individual and group consultations for identified students
  • Maintain data and documentation
  • Provide daily support to students in classrooms and throughout the school
  • Support implementation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
  • Maintain a safe learning environment
  • Work closely with the building administrator and due process facilitator to create, implement, and evaluate supports for identified students
  • Know and support the guidelines, policies and procedures in the student handbook and adhere to MAWSECO policies and procedures
  • Act as liaison to MAWSECO on the BIOC team and safety committee
  • Maintain confidentiality, relevant case records, data and direct contact records
  • Adhere to ethical and professional boundaries, obligations and standards

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years working with Middle School/High School age students and at-risk populations in an educational setting
  • A bachelor's degree in education, behavior analysis, mental health, or closely related field. Master's degree is preferred.

MAWSECO is located immediately west of Minneapolis and south of St. Cloud.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
