Job Purpose: Under the general direction of the Behavioral Health Director this position Counsels and aids individuals and families requiring assistance dealing with substance abuse problems, such as alcohol or drug abuse using medication-assisted therapy (MAT). The Substance Abuse Counselor II will have an understanding of working with justice involved clients to reduce recidivism and increase access to services. The SA Counselor II works in close collaboration with the Director, assisting with generating and evaluating data to improve program areas.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 3+ years related experience or equivalent as a Substance Abuse Counselor I or 1 -2 years as a Substance Abuse Counselor II.
  • Must possess certification CA Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselor (i.e., CAASC/CATC) CATC II Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor II OR LAADC Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word.
  • Must maintain a valid, unrestricted California Drivers license and ability to be insurable under SCIHPs automobile insurance and be able to meet insurance requirements regarding driver record to utilize GSA vehicles.
  • Must possess current CPR certification or be willing to attend a SCIHP provided CPR training.
  • Assist with daily operations and coordinate the work of other staff; train, develop and lead staff; understand and apply SCIHP alcohol and other drug program policies and procedures.
  • Understand principles, practices and techniques of program planning and development.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while also being an effective team member and collaborate with staff, client, agencies and other tribal programs.
  • Foster positive work environment with coworkers and programs participants.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times; abides by HIPAA and other regulations put forth by various regulatory agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background investigation.
  • Must provide proof of completed COVID vaccinations and booster. Plus, annual flu vaccination.

Special Qualifications: Must be sensitive to the needs of the Native American Community, which includes culture, traditions, and background.
