Overview:

The Substation Apprentice is a vital member of the substation crew. This position works with the Leadman and other members of the crew to ensure the safe and successful completion of projects within specified dates. The Substation Apprentice plays an important role in the completion of medium and high voltage substation projects.

Qualifications & Necessary Attributes:

• Basic knowledge of tool types and ability to read measurements
• Willingness to learn to operate various types of equipment such as skid steer, backhoe, crane truck, man lifts, trencher etc.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. & ability to push/pull up to 75 lbs.
• Capability of standing/walking for extended periods of time
• Basic level of knowledge and understanding in Safety & OSHA requirements
• Candidate must possess the Company’s Core Values: Passion, Integrity, Hard Work and Professionalism.
• Ability to communicate effectively with teammates
• Ability to work in a fast paced/high stress environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Must be willing to travel and work away from home as required

Essential Functions: (including but not limited to)

• Contribute as a member of the substation crew installing high voltage substations, including foundations, grounding, steel erection, equipment installation, wiring, testing and commissioning
• Assist in completing tear-down of existing structures and preparing for new construction
• Use various types of equipment to open trenches, set steel structures, raise transformers and switches
• Assist with conduit installation to breakers, regulators, transformers, aluminum bus bending and connections
• Ensures members of the crew are operating in compliance with OSHA regulations and the Silvey Safety Manual.
• Accountable for care and use of company fleet, equipment and tools
