Position Purpose



Looking for a Part-Time or Full-TIme position for the summer making $15.15/hour at you are at least 18 years old or older? Do you want the opportunity to make an extra $500 if you work 400 hours or more for the summer? Do you enjoy being outside in the summer?

Outagamie County Recycling and Solid Waste located at 1419 Holland Road in Appleton is seeking employees to assist in some tasks such as:

  • Lawn Mowing
  • Weed Trimming
  • Litter Pickup
  • so much more!
The position duration is approximately May 15 - August 30, 2023
Hours are Monday - Friday (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) if working Full-Time. Part-Time hours could be available during the day until 3:30 PM. May be opportunities for overtime.

The Seasonal Solid Waste & Recycling worker will assist the department in the maintenance of grounds and facilities, in both the landfill and material recovery facility. May be assigned to either the Landfill Division or Recycling Division of the Recycling & Solid Waste Department based on daily operational needs

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains landfill shop service areas, cleans and organizes tools, and performs minor equipment repairs.
  • Cleans and washes equipment, vehicles, and/or facilities
  • Assists with the servicing of light and heavy equipment in the landfill and material recovery facility to include changing oil, greasing and fueling equipment
  • Operates equipment such as tractors, mowers, pickup trucks, weed eaters, etc. (that do not require a Commercial Driver's License)
  • Perform hand work using shovels, post hole diggers, rakes, etc
  • Performs litter control/pick up within the landfill
  • Cleans dozer tracks on as needed basis
  • Uses basic hand and power tools in servicing equipment and making minor repairs to facilities or on site
  • Receives training in the safe operation of recycling commodity balers in the material recovery facility
  • Performs maintenance assistance tasks within the recycling operation
  • Performs source separation of landfill diversion materials in the transfer station
  • Works in the small vehicle area cleaning, sweeping, picking up materials and putting them in the proper containers for shipment or disposal.
  • Perform traffic control spotter duties on site as needed.
  • Assist Recycling program with collection of materials in County Clean Sweep Program
  • Assist supervisors with project related field tasks as needed
  • Follows safety rules and guidelines as established by, but not limited to County and/or state/federal law.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education/Certifications/Experience Requirements

Must be 18 years old and enrolled in higher education for the fall semester is preferred. Ability to operate a variety of office machines including personal computers with beginning knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) a plus. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must provide own steel toed shoes.

  • Ability to perform tasks on a regular basis which require frequent standing, reaching, bending, squatting and carrying
  • Ability to work in a safe manner
