The Valley Community Association is a non-profit, multi-faceted agency that provides services and programs to the residents of the Buffalo River Community. Services include child care, youth programs, senior citizen activities, family support services, and neighborhood beautification projects.
The Valley’s School Aged Child Care program is seeking qualified part time tutors for the 2022-23 after school programming. Staff must have availability in the afternoons between 2:30-5:45 PM. We are also seeking staff for our full day summer camp. There is some flexibility in scheduling.
The “Striving for Excellence” Youth Programs offer activities and programs that improve student achievement and learning by offering a comprehensive, structured, and schedule based program. The programs include both academic remediation, and academic enrichment, as well as a broad array of additional services (i.e. after school programs/activities and family services). The programs meet the diverse needs of all students by offering a variety of hands-on, project based, high quality, fun activities that meet student’s different learning styles.
Staff offer additional support in after school programming and summer camp to connect to school day learning. Staff assist with homework; deliver lessons to small groups of students in ELA, technology, and social emotional learning; and provide a structured and safe environment to students.
Interested applicants should be comfortable working with a small group of children in a classroom setting. A teaching background is not required, but is recommended. Staff are not required to create their own lessons, but must be comfortable carrying out the lessons given to them. The VCA strives to offer a robust program and seeks staff with diverse backgrounds and experiences to enhance the quality of our program.
Qualifications:
· A Bachelor's Degree (preferably in education), or on track to complete a Bachelor’s Degree
· An Associate’s Degree plus, 2 years’ experience as a Teaching Assistant or Tutor
· Experience working with children in a formal setting preferred
· Strong ELA or Math skills preferred
· Must be comfortable working with students in small groups across a variety of subjects and program areas
· Strong communication and organizations skills
· Successful candidate must undergo a criminal and child abuse background check, as well as have a current physical and negative TB test, and participate in mandatory trainings.

Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
