This role provides oversight of the daily operations of the lab and medical assistant clinical services within the clinic. This includes the implementation of programs, coordinating staffing, addressing personnel issues, and ensuring staff compliance to policies and procedures. This role provides input to clinic leadership regarding policies and procedures, system improvements, staffing, budget, fiscal monitoring, and discipline issues. This role will work approximately 3 of 5 days providing patient care including working in the lab, performing phlebotomy work, rooming of patients, and/or registry work.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the lab and medical assistant clinical services in terms of overall staffing ensuring that staff are matched up to their clinician as consistently as possible.
  • Manage scheduling related to sick calls, etc.
  • Manage clinic flow as it relates to the lab and care teams.
  • Participate in interviewing related to hiring needs.
  • Provide new hires with applicable training including lab, CMP, clinic workflow, etc.,
  • Manage new hire systems access.
  • Provide training of staff/certification per requirements including annual lab training for staff.
  • Conduct proficiency training for staff three times per year.
  • Coordinate CLIA/COLA Certification, follow protocols and policies to ensure the organization is meeting expectations per accredited bodies in partnership with Lab Consultant.
  • Coordinate MnVFC/IPI: Follow protocols to ensure the organization is meeting expectations per accrediting bodies
  • Monitors employee performance and addresses personnel issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provide input regarding making process improvements and/or giving suggestions for changes within the clinic. Solicits input from staff for ideas/suggestions regarding process improvements.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings and encourages staff participation.
  • Approve and audit timecards.
  • Be an active and consistent part of the patient care team and must possess practical and technical knowledge required for the job.
  • Manage/delegate the ordering of supplies and vaccines to ensure appropriate items and quantities obtained, being a good steward of resources.
  • Actively supports and communicates the mission and vision of NSFP.
  • Model, promote and educate new staff on Healthy Workplace Values and Behavior
  • Serves as a role model in the enhancement of professional conduct, shares skills and knowledge.
  • Incorporates a patient-centered approach in all activities
  • Actively supports and completes employee orientation and training and takes advantage of ongoing learning opportunities to educate employees.

Required qualifications include:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration through AAMA or AMT

If not currently certified or registered through AAMA or AMTMust meet criteria for certification or registration through AAMA or AMTMust register to take the AAMA or AMT certification or registration exam within 45 days of hireMust pass first scheduled AAMA or AMT certification or registration exam within 6 months of hireCurrent BLS/CPR certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross required within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment. Preferred qualifications include:

  • At least one year experience in a direct patient care setting
