The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) is recruiting for Supervisor Transportation - Bus (Field). This is the first level of supervisory work directing and coordinating a transportation service unit of the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA). Employees supervise bus, metro or light rail operators and manage assigned equipment and personnel to effectively operate these services of operations in accordance with all established policies and procedures. Incumbents also initiate appropriate action to correct service problems, when and where necessary. Employees directly supervise operators, and/or other designated personnel, in their respective assigned areas.

Employees receive managerial supervision from Superintendents or other designated official. Work is performed primarily in a field operation setting or other areas as assigned.

This position is located in Baltimore City.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years of experience in a transit system and/or transportation operation. *Two (2) years of experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.

  • A Selective qualification recruitment is conducted for a job or position when there is a specific or additional bona fide occupational qualification (i.e. knowledge, skill or ability).

SUBSTITUTION INFORMATION:
1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Transportation, Business Administration, Management or a related field may be substituted for the experience at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience, for up to two years of the experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and will be required to maintain a
reliable communication link for the purpose of emergency call back requirements.

2. Employees are required to work shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends.

3. Employees are required to travel to various locations throughout the MTA service
area.

4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in
accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49- Federal Department of
Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol
Testing Rules.

Licenses & Certifications

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
Employees in this classification are assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Applicants are always required to possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for this position.
