Summary of Job:
Seeking a Survey Crew Instrument Operator to join our existing Survey and Civil Site Design Department in our Columbus, Ohio office. Survey Crew Instrument Operator reports directly to the Survey Engineer/Party Chief (PC).
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide Construction Survey support to the PC and Project Survey Manager.
- Support the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.
- Assist the PC with the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications and appropriate methods of performing survey activities.
- Perform duties of a Rod Person and/or Instrument Operator on a direct-hire survey crew; operates the survey instrument(s), rod, staff, GNSS rover, and other survey implements as required in accordance with Bechtel survey procedures.
- Perform other duties as required in support of construction layout, laser scanning or other survey activities, including substituting for the PC during his/her absence.
- Assures that all survey equipment is in good working order and that instruments are properly transported.
- Assist the PC in providing support to both Field Engineering and Field Supervision.
- Assist the PC in developing and maintaining survey data.
- Performs Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments.
- Supports the administration of the survey work request program.
- Assist the PC in providing civil project completion documentation including "As-Built" records.
- Follow required safety standards and guidelines set by the company and clients.
- Maintain survey equipment in operational condition and applicable calibration checks.
- Capable of performing basic calculations utilizing calculator or supplied data collectors.
- Working knowledge of uploading and downloading digital files with computer skills.
- Occasional out of town travel and overnight stays, for a couple days, may be required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Physical Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- CAD literate, experience w/CAD software a plus.
- Two (2) years’ experience in surveying and one (1) year experience as a Survey Crew Instrument Operator required.
- Two or more years of college or technical training within the surveying profession or a Surveyor-In-Training Certificate or NSPS-Certified Survey Technician is a plus.
- Excellent Communication Skills.
