Job Overview:
- We are currently recruiting for a System Safety Engineer to work remotely in our Navigation and non-radar Surveillance (NAS) organization.
- The System Safety Engineer is part of the company’s Engineering Department and consists globally in monitoring all activities to demonstrate that the safety objectives have been met, throughout the entire life cycle of the solution.
- The System Safety Engineer has the overall responsibility to independently verify and validate Safety engineering activities in projects, products, and bids and ultimately to ensure that NAS-delivered systems as a whole are within their acceptable level of safety.
- For this, the System Safety Engineer interfaces operationally with the relevant Project/Products Design Authorities and Project/Products Safety and Software Managers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate safety regulation requirements and safety project compliance with regulations for complex systems and services for Bids and Products/Projects.
- Raise risk areas such as unachieved safety objectives, completeness, and correctness of the safety analyses, and propose adequate mitigations.
- Create and maintain a safety culture within a delivery-focused program and product development environment.
- Influence key stakeholders to adopt a safety mindset.
- Represent the Safety view of programs to all stakeholders (internal and external) of the program and communicate complex technical issues or ideas in a manner appropriate for a non-technical audience.
- Generate and verify effort estimates related to safety.
- Verify local safety management plans to ensure compliance with the company’s safety referential and bid strategy.
- Communicate regularly and socialize the Safety discipline to the client’s employees.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Electrical, or Software Engineering, or in another related technical field of study with a minimum of 8+ years of relevant work experience or a Master’s degree in Systems, Electrical, or Software Engineering, or in another related technical field of study with 6+ years of relevant work experience.
- 5+ years of experience managing Safety programs in the Air Traffic Management environment or equivalent.
- Ability to evaluate Safety Regulations and Project requirements and assess the adequacy of proposed Safety Solutions.
- Mastering Safety Regulations and Safety standards.
- Working knowledge of system safety tools and techniques (Fault Tree Analyses, Event Tree Analysis, Goal Structured Notation, HAZOP)
- Proven ability to work in a multinational and multicultural team with varied degrees of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Safety and Software audits.
- Knowledge of Software / Hardware assurance standards DO-178, DO-278, and/or DO-254.
- Experience with MIL-STD-882.
- Experience with DOD and/or FAA Programs.
- Experience in dealing with US Government contracts in general.
- Capability to manage various stakeholders having different objectives.
- Proficient in the use of requirement management tools (e.g., DOORS)
- Experience with NAVAID products.
- Experience with the company’s tools and processes.
- The ability to speak additional languages such as German, Italian or French is a benefit.
