Overview

The System Administrator participates in the installation, configuration and maintenance of all data center hardware, software and networking equipment. This includes installation and support of custom healthcare applications unique to Perry Johnson and Associates. This position participates in technical research to enable continued infrastructure innovation. This position follows corporate policies to ensure that hardware, software and networking equipment adhere to corporate standards. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse set of information technology expertise. This expertise will contribute to placement within various functional teams. This position does not manage any other team members.

This is a full-time position located in our Troy, MI office. Scheduled work hours are 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday with additional hours required based on project requirements and customer implementations. Specific functional roles are described below:

Engineering

  • System design and testing for various project and operational needs.
  • Install new and rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, operating system and custom applications.
  • Install and manage custom healthcare applications
  • Author and maintain written installation and configuration procedures.
  • Research and recommend innovative and automated techniques for system administration tasks.

Operations and Support

  • Perform daily system monitoring; verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources and custom applications.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify possible intrusions.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.
  • Coordinate and communicate with customers.
  • Transition new or updated applications from software development staff into production environments.
  • Establish and monitor site to site VPNs.

Maintenance

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis.
  • Upgrade and configure custom server-based applications.
  • Maintain operational, configuration and other procedures.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades and resource optimization as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science
  • Minimum four years system administration experience
  • Participate in on-call rotation after 90 days
  • Occasional travel
  • Attend and participate in quarterly data center maintenance

Personal Communications

  • Interpret and discuss technical information with team members.
  • Perform verbal and written correspondence with customers and vendors.

Salary for this position is negotiable based on experience level.
