The IT Associate 1 is an entry level career opportunity that provides the ability to develop and build the technical and professional skills needed to contribute to Yale’s continued dedication to expanding and sharing knowledge, inspiring innovation, and preserving cultural and scientific information for future generations.

Reporting to the Manager of the Windows Services team, the Windows Systems Engineer position provides Windows system administration for mission-critical services in a dynamic academic, research, and clinical environment. This position will work closely with fellow engineers, architects, support providers and clients as the service-oriented team operates and supports the infrastructure needs of Yale University. Using experience, creativity and self-motivation, this team manages the lifecycle of Windows systems at an enterprise scale and ensures performance, reliability, and security on Windows systems in a dynamic 24-7-365 production data center environment.

Areas of Focus: Windows Server troubleshooting and server builds. Knowledge of Vmware, Azure, AWS - Systems Management, backups and snapshots. ITSM - Queue management, Incident, Change, and Request handling - Following SOPs. SSL certificate lifecycle management. Prepare documentation (procedural, planning, informational), to support systems engineering. Perform limited off-shift work and participate in rotating on-call coverage.

Essential Duties

1. Works closely with experienced staff to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to become proficient in area(s) of specialization. Takes initiative to increase understanding of all job-related areas. 2. Assists in applying principals and methods of the functional area to problems in technical areas to arrive at viable solutions. 3. Perform analysis, design, implementation and maintenance activities within area(s) of focus 4. Troubleshoot processes, issues and errors. 5. Participate in projects that solve business requirements. 6. Explore and propose creative information technology solutions to business problems. 7. Pursues opportunities for efficiencies and/or to achieve cost reduction. 8. Work with business and technical partners to resolve business issues and respond to ad hoc requests. 9. Ensure all work is in compliance with Yale University and Information Technology policies, procedures, guidelines and regulatory requirements. 10. Complete additional assignments as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and no experience necessary.
