EQA is a New Orleans nonprofit with the mission of Providing struggling students with the skills, confidence and experiences to succeed in the education and career paths of their choice.
The organization currently runs three alternative high schools: The NET:Central City, The NET:Gentilly, and The NET: East / New Orleans Accelerated High School (formerly ReNEW Accelerated High School) for students who have dropped out of, been expelled from, or who have otherwise struggled in a traditional school setting. EQA also operates a middle school program for middle schoolers who struggle in traditional settings called The Bridge.
EQA programs are built on the belief that alternative schools should not punish or “fix” young people; they should be vibrant, flexible, and restorative environments that support students in being their best selves.
Position Summary & Purpose
EQA seeks a full time Homebound Teacher to provide instruction and support for students unable to attend school physically. This includes students on maternity leave, with chronic health problems, with depression, on safety leave, and/or other special situations.
This position is a unique opportunity to develop and deliver a high quality homebound program which insures that these students continue learning academically, developing social-emotionally, and can return to school on track.
As the Homebound Teacher, you are responsible for:
- Managing caseload of students on short or long term homebound to ensure they get the academic and non academic supports needed
- Visiting each student at minimum 4 hours per week to tutor
- Managing online curriculum and developing supplementary curriculum for homebound students
- Managing student grades and communication with school based teachers
- Communicate daily through email, phone and text with all homebound students
- Tutor and support students on campus when caseload of homebound students drops below full time
Position Requirements:
- 2+ years teaching with at risk middle/high school students
- BA or BS
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Superior organizational skills as you will be working across multiple campuses and have an ever changing case load
- Flexible, open to change, quick-learning, self-directed, and able to manage in a highly dynamic and fast paced environment
- Learning mindset dedicated to effectively and innovatively problem solving and constantly improving
- Passion for improving educational opportunities for urban students and for being a part of a strong, mission-driven teams

Position Details
- Schedule is flexible but must be conducive to school and student needs
- EQA teacher salary range is from $45,000 - $55,000 based on years of relevant experience
- End of July 2023
- Works at all four EQA schools across New Orleans
- Report to EQA’s CEO and works closely with the principals, teachers and nurses at each school
Reliable Transportation is required: This position is responsible for meeting with staff at each school and for dropping off/picking up assignments and materials/supplies across the city. Mileage reimbursement for student visits is provided.
