Description of Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations

The individual assigned to this position is responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient management of major and minor capital and expense projects, maintenance, operations, personnel management and development, and continuous improvement in the NE Division.

This Technical Manager will be responsible for a wide range of work assigned for all sites located in the NE region.

The Technical Manager is expected to demonstrate the ability to comply with all reasonable industry related standards and programs. Some specific responsibilities may include (although not limited to) the following:

  • Oversight of projects.
  • E&I project and maintenance lead/manage.
  • Personnel development.
  • Operations optimization.
  • Implementation of safety procedures.
  • Project activity oversight.
  • Play lead role in insurance compliance/requirements for the NE.
  • Managing schedules.
  • Keeping accurate records.
  • Record keeping
  • Contractor safety
  • Personnel safety
  • Employee/contractor supervision, scheduling, and performance evaluations


Participate in all federal, state and local regulatory activities at assigned projects/plants, including (but not limited to);

  • Complete training in Dam Safety.
  • Be educated on OSHA requirements.


Work with regional managers related to E&I maintenance, optimization, assigned projects and their sites associated with federal, state and local environmental activities at the assigned projects/plants, including (but not limited to);

  • Fish way operations (if required)
  • Wildlife management
  • Water Quality certifications
  • SPCC compliance
  • Work closely with federal and/or state environmental agencies.
  • LIHI certifications (if required)


Administrative duties;

  • Assist the Project and Division Manager (OPS) in the development and implementation of policies and procedures along with personnel development.
  • Manage the E&I group, projects, maintenance, operations optimization.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of budgets.
  • Provide a safe work environment for all employees and contractors.
  • Support implementation of safety policies.
  • Support generation reporting.
  • Play a lead role in organization development and division strategic planning.
  • Work closely with the engineering group towards safety, compliance, budget, and generation initiatives, targets, and objectives.
  • Assist in obtaining and enforcing all local, state and federal environmental permits and regulatory requirements related to projects.
  • Comply with company standards, practices and policies.
  • Provide accurate records as required.
  • Respond to emergency situations, when necessary.
  • Respond to plant callouts when required.
  • Must be proficient in the use of personal computers, specifically in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, data collection and database software.
  • Perform other collateral duties as assigned.


Organizational Relationships

  • Report directly to the NE Division Manager with a dotted line to the Director, Project Management.
  • See organization chart for additional information.
  • Typically set as the succession plan for the Division Managers role.
  • Provide support to the NE Division, Regional Managers, Maintenance Manager, and ECRE Director Project Manager.


Qualifications

  • A minimum of an associate degree in a technical or engineering discipline or equivalent
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, experience in hydro, steam and/or gas turbine power plant operations is preferred.
  • Experienced in the use of personal computers.
  • Must be able to read and understand single and three electrical drawings.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to read and understand P&IDs.
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of 3-phase power generation.
  • Must possess the understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
  • Ability to understand complex issues as they relate to plant operations.
  • Ability to work extended hours, if and when required
  • Ability to perform operational tasks. Operational tasks may include:
    • The ability to climb ladders and to be at heights.
    • The ability and dexterity to manipulate various size components from valves to small electrical switches to computer keyboards.
    • The ability to "handle" quick changing situations under stress
