Position Overview
This role is located at the new GES Indianapolis (IN) office.
The technical program manager will be responsible for managing hardware and SW design programs. HW encompasses optical, mechanical, electric, and electronics design.
Position Summary
A successful candidate will have an open and collaborative style, enjoys challenges and problem solving. The candidate needs to have a highly practical understanding of complex equipment used to make electrical and optical measurements. The ability to switch between mindsets required for working in small and large organizations is a plus. A strong systems orientation and ability to contribute to the project in this area is expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Guide development projects from first concepts through alpha and beta builds, to hand off to manufacturing upon design verification.
- Own and drive the product development schedule.
- Create, maintain, and report on schedules, critical gaps, and highlight and mitigate schedule and technical risks.
- Continually assess risk, perform gap analysis, and prioritize tasks.
- Work with engineering groups (ME, EE, SW, Optics) based in all GES sites and possible customer sites as well during their respective working hours.
- Maintain a leadership role in product review meetings with customers.
- Provide customers with regular updates and extraordinary news.
- Serve as primary interface on schedule and deliverables with the manufacturing organizations in San Jose, Vietnam, and China, and the software organization in India.
Basic Background Requirements
- Prior experience with testing and manufacturing equipment program management.
- Experience with CAD models, optical components, electrical circuit schematics, and other such documents is desirable.
- Understanding of software used for system control.
- Strong communication skills are required to be successful with colleagues, customers, executive management, and foreign field offices.
- Travel up to 25% may be required.
Key Performance Objectives
- Short Term (First month):
- Learn and understand key GES products and customers.
- Forge relationships with engineering and operations leadership.
- Understand the GES product development process.
- Learn the GES proposal development process.
- Transition into one major product development project and two minor projects.
- Midterm (2 to 9 months):
- Completely own at least one major product development project, including meeting schedules and deliverables, and two minor projects.
- Longer Term ( >9 months):
- Close at least one phase of one major project.
- Other (ad hoc priorities):
- Work with management to improve product proposal process and product development process.
- Develop working relationships with counterparts in the US, China, Vietnam, and India offices.
Education Requirements
- 10+ years of practical experience in engineering or project management work, from requirements through production (or equivalent experience in hardware, process, or test procedure development).
- Higher education in a technical field is required – ME, EE, Physics, and others. MS or PhD is a plus.
- Formal education and training in program management is wished.
