We currently have an opening at our Foothill Ranch, CA (Orange County) facility for a Technical Project Manager. The selected candidate will coordinate multi-discipline teams for the concept, design, procurement, fabrication, and execution of a wide range of projects within the TAE Fusion organization. This is a full-time position with a rich compensation package.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the concept, design, procurement, fabrication, and execution of Fusion projects to ensure quality and schedule compliance
  • Prepare project plans, financial analysis, schedules and budgets by using project management tools and by working with appropriate staff to understand tasks necessary to complete a project.
  • Prepare, coordinate and/or lead meetings with internal and external participants.
  • Communicate project status by preparing standard status reports / meeting minutes, and by presenting in project status update meetings.
  • Responsible for ensuring the organization and consistent execution of technical or business project deliverables, as well as monitoring tasks and implementing improvements to processes and procedures.
  • Support or work closely together with the program management office (PMO) to set up key milestones, timing requirements, and performance targets.
  • Facilitate the interaction and ensure tight integration between technical and non-technical teams
  • Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs
  • Travel to offsite facilities to oversee and manage installations.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing complex experimental projects, designing and building complex capital equipment and/or facilities
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills are necessary: verbal, written, and program management presentations
  • Detail oriented and organized with a strong discipline of adhering to standards.
  • Proven decision-making skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision while maintaining a high level of efficiency.
  • Ability to thrive in a challenging, dynamic environment. Must be flexible and quick to adapt to sudden changes and issues.
  • Ability to cooperate and communicate well with engineering, physics/science, project management, quality assurance, logistics, and procurement groups.
  • Able to resolve conflict and drive issues to resolution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operational/logistical aspects of lab settings, or an equivalent regulated environment

Project Experience:

  • Strong experience in at least one of the following areas:
  • Fusion technology
  • Complex research equipment

Other Preferred Experience:

  • 5+ years of project management experience
  • 7+ years of related work experience

Software Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in scheduling tools
  • Experience with an enterprise project manager tool such as Jira, or Confluence

Other Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skilled and experienced in managing cross-functional teams, including breakdown of projects in to tasks, effective assignment & delegation of tasks among team members while ensuring balanced workload, and follow-through to ensure completion and provision of support.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and work independently
  • Demonstrable experience in independent problem solving and quantitative analysis
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to complete a multitude of tasks within established deadlines

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in science or engineering
