Job Description:

Work to optimize and maintain the timely and effective production support and installation for distributed enterprise systems, with emphasis on company-wide enterprise systems and inter/intranet support. Support and administer technical IS systems, including installing and testing hardware and software, configuring and tuning the operating systems and file systems, planning capacity needs, producing system documentation and providing for back up and recovery. Serves as project lead. As appropriate assignments will be related to Enterprise Unix, Windows, VMWare, Linux, Active Directory, and Storage environments. As appropriate assignments will also include data center coordination. Acts as a liaison to the operational teams providing consulting and support. Position requires on-call and off-hours support.


Provide timely and effective production support and installation for distributed systems, with emphasis on company-wide systems and inter/intranet support. As appropriate assignments will be related to Unix, Windows, VMWare, Linux, Active Directory, and Storage environments. As appropriate assignments will also include data center coordination. Position requires on-call and off-hours support.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Provide technical and analytical expertise for the installation, maintenance and optimization of enterprise servers and storage systems where appropriate.

2. System access is based on the individual's role as determined by their immediate supervisor or manager.

3. Plan, coordinate and execute upgrades, migrations, conversions and implementations of servers.

4. Monitor and administers all servers, keeping systems up-to-date, managing network resources, maintaining patches and updates on servers; monitors servers routinely in relationship to security and virus scanning, traffic/bandwidth and internet connectivity.

5. Provide project management and assist project personnel with specific project technical requirements.

6. Provide consulting support to project teams implementing systems on distributed platforms.

7. Perform administrative duties including managing user profiles and access rights, security levels, utilities and printer issues.

8. Assist in the evaluation of hardware and software products to determine effectiveness of use for the end-users and the strategic design of the system, based on Gundersen Health System and the departmental strategic plan.

9. Assists in the development plans and proactive actions to prevent network systems and desktop computer downtime. Ensures availability of hardware/software services.

10. Work with other IS teams to identify and initiate process improvement.

11. Responds to needs and questions of network users concerning access to resources, operations and troubleshooting of various software programs.

12. Prepares documentation and instructions for systems usage, maintenance, troubleshooting and implementation as required.

13. Acts as 3rd level support to Help Desk and is involved in on-call rotation.

14. Assist in development of policies and procedures for production distributed systems.

15. Strong analytical skills in system design and problem resolution.

16. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.

17. Experience with communications and data transfer between desktop and mainframe system.

18. Work with IS department colleagues and all end users to provide timely, respectful and comprehensive communication for the purpose of customer satisfaction.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree in a technical field or a related field

Work Experience:

1 year professional experience

DESIRED

1 year to 3 years IT experience in a healthcare environment and 1 to 3 years Server administration experience
