The Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Founded in 1989 as a single-site club in Hobe Sound serving 165 children, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Martin County (BGCMC) has grown to operate four clubs in Martin County reaching thousands of children and families per year. BGCMC’s vision is to provide a world-class enrichment experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters through its doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.

Operating with an $8M budget, BGCMC’s programming reached 6,663 young people through programming focused on three core pillars: academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship. In each of these areas, BGCM’s programs show promising results thanks in part to its dedicated staff and innovative model using Americorps volunteers to serve as academic enrichment coaches. BGCMC also provided over 100K free and nutritious meals and over $500K in scholarships to the young people it serves.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Under the direct supervision of the 21st Century Associate, the Technology Specialist is responsible for directing and advancing the Clubs’ mission by overseeing technology programs, program initiatives and events. Provide program development and management of all technology programs, coordination and delivery of services in accordance with local, state and federally funded requirements.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the planning and implementation of technology programming including, but not limited to, Robotics, STEM, and coding.
  • In keeping with the Formula for Impact objectives effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for members that are fun, educational and engaging.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting all club related technology issues and for the installation/set-up of all related hardware.
  • Secure and maintain all 21st Century technology equipment and supplies.
  • Post and follow a weekly lesson plan.
  • Plan special events, such as guest speakers, performances or field trips.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members including maintaining a ratio of staff to members of 1:25 or less.
  • Gain a working knowledge of grant outcome expectations and report results as requested.
  • Supports the Executive Director with member supervision and additional club duties as needed.

PROGRAM SUPERVISION

  • Provide active supervision continually interacting with all members and providing motivation and encouragement.
  • Ensure that the program area is secure and clean.
  • Ensure that program equipment is in good condition and instruct members in the proper use of the equipment.
  • Discipline members fairly, consistently, and only according to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to members and peers.
  • Work actively with volunteers to guide them regarding member activities and needs.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, ages 6-18 as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner
  • Highly motivated and dedicated to the organizational mission
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential
  • Strong technology skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications, desktop publishing/graphic design, digital photography, Internet research and basic troubleshooting

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or GED (or working towards).
  • Experience in an educational setting preferred.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Knowledge of youth development.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Valid State Driver’s License

Compensation

This position offers an hourly rate of $20.00 per hour.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County also offers a comprehensive benefits package for part time employees including retirement plan options, paid time off and holidays.

Schedule: Monday-Friday from 1:00 pm- 7:00 pm. (Could be before or after depending on the location and situation of the day.) Typical Non-School Day & Summer Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday and a shift would fall between the hours of 7:30AM to 5:30PM. (Could be before or after depending on the location and situation of the day.) Occasional weekend work required.
