Position Description
Title: Teen Team Assistant
Classification: Part-time, hourly
Hours: Per-diem, involves evening and weekend work including up to two Tuesday evenings per month and up to 3 weekend activities per month, usually on Saturdays (approximately eight hours each). Some special events - Midnight Run (December) and Alternative Spring Break (April) - require overnight staff support and are required attendance.
Primary role: The Teen Team Assistant (TTA) implements activities associated with Teen Team and Youth Council, NECC’s two leadership and community-service programs for youth ages 14 to 18 in the Webutuck School District. The Teen Program objective is to help teens gain knowledge, self-esteem, and foster their community engagement. The Assistant works closely with the full-time Teen Program Assistant, helping to implement program activities and objectives and model positive behavior for the teens.
Responsibilities:
- Attends and implements programming for Teen Team activities, up to three Saturdays each month (occasional Friday nights or Sundays)
- Attends and supports Youth Council facilitation, up to two Tuesday evenings each month
- Models positive behavior for teens
- Is an open and honest resource for teens seeking support
- Transport students to and from events utilizing 12- or 15-passenger vans
- Attend monthly teen program staff meetings with Teen Program Director and Teen Program Assistant
- Communicate effectively with the Teen Program Assistant and the Teen Program Director
- Maintain patient, professional demeanor when dealing with diverse community of volunteers, parents, community members, board members, staff, donors, and others
- May be asked to create graphic design calendar of monthly activities
- Follow all NECC Policies and Procedures
- All other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Behaviors:
- Responsible, kind, transparent, engaged leader, mindful and clear communicator.
- Must be motivated and comfortable working with teens.
- Able to participate as an active team member, working well with staff and clients.
- Experience working with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- The ability to responsibly manage confidential and/or sensitive information.
- Models NECC values at all times.
Qualifications:
- Relevant training including but not limited to First Aid/CPR, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and Mandated Reporter certification (trainings must be completed within 3 months of employment start)
- Background check through central database and fingerprinting
- Current driver’s license and Defensive Driving certificate (may be completed upon employment)
ADA Requirements:
- Ability to lift a 50-pound box
- Ability to walk up and down stairs
