Provides professional videography instruction to students enrolled at the Center for Communications at Varina High School.


Opportunity Schools Stipend

Starting in the 2023-24 school year, Henrico County Public Schools will designate select schools with high rates of vacant positions and provisionally licensed staff as Opportunity Schools through the HCPS Career Ladder. This is a new pathway within the Career Ladder through which entire schools, selected by HCPS, receive compensation supplements, additional staffing resources and specialized professional learning.

Essential Duties



The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.



Additional Expectations:
  • Displays creativity and knowledge in video production techniques
  • Possesses knowledge necessary to design, organize, and produce television programs and segments
  • Possesses knowledge required to troubleshoot basic video production/studio engineering problems
  • Sets up equipment for television and streaming productions
  • Performs production switching for live and recorded television programs
  • Edits recorded programs using non-linear editing equipment
  • Moves and carries video production equipment as required
  • Operates video equipment including character generators, production switchers, editing systems, teleprompters, distribution amplifiers, studio and field cameras, audio mixers, lighting equipment
  • Troubleshoots and corrects video engineering/equipment problems and/or makes recommendations for timely repairs
  • Performs routine maintenance and modifications to studio wiring infrastructure and equipment
  • Instruct students in the Center for Communications and Media Relations in videography techniques and equipment usage
  • Works with Center for Communications staff members to plan and implement curricular needs and lessons
  • Assesses student work and alters instruction to meet student and group needs
  • Utilizes the curriculum of the Center for Communications and Media Relations and knowledge of communications technologies and skills to plan daily instructional activities
  • Selects and uses instructional materials for classroom use
  • Designs materials and student assessments for daily use in the classroom
  • Directs or assists with special broadcasts/events/activities as required
  • Drives students to local off-site television production locations in county-provided vehicles
  • Attends school and district events/functions as required for Center for Communications and Media Relations members
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess or be eligible for a VDOE technical professional license in Television Production
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and DMV
Preferred Requirements:
  • Knowledge of Adobe Suite of Programs, especially Premiere Pro.
  • Experience in working with directing/producing/video editing preferred.
  • Knowledge of equipment/techniques/engineering used in television production and broadcast.

This vacancy is for the 2023-24 school year. This is a 239-Day assignment with an July17, 2023 start date.

  • Minimum *annual starting salary: $65,437.40 (Masters) $62,440.13 (Bachelors)
(*Note: PROPOSED salary based on the recommended 2023-2024 financial plan. The 2023-2024 financial plan is not yet approved / adopted; scheduled for approval on May 11, 2023. Additionally, the position includes a $3000 stipend.)
