POSITION INFORMATION
- Baker School District is currently seeking a candidate for a Temporary Mechanic at the Bus Barn.
- This is a temporary position for approximately 90 days and will begin in February.
- Start date: TBD
- This position will be 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
- This position will work with and under the direct supervision of the Transportation Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current Oregon driver’s license.
- Current CDL.
- Current ODE Inspection certificate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
▪ Work experience as mechanic on buses.
▪ Able to lift 100 pounds.
▪ Driving record must, for a period of three years immediately preceding employment or any date during employment thereafter, be free of any violation for: 1) reckless driving, 2) hit and run, 3) driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or 4) more than one moving violation of any other type.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Be responsible for shop safety, personal equipment requirements, and Material Safety Data Sheets.
2. Inspect, diagnose, replace and make major and minor repairs to the mechanical and electrical system of the District vehicles within Federal and State Standards.
3. Perform heavy and medium duty repairs on various District vehicle components.
4. Maintain shop area, equipment and tools in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
5. Maintain maintenance files and shop log for each vehicle.
6. Maintain parts processing and inventory log.
7. Report any accidents and/or safety violations to the Maintenance/Grounds/Transportation Director.
8. Respond to emergency situations to maintain, move, or repair a vehicle.
9. Read driver inspection reports on vehicles and repair discrepancies in a timely manner and communicate with drivers to let them know what has been repaired.
10. Perform routine, preventative maintenance on fleet trouble shooting for the cause and location of vehicle problems.
11. Conduct road tests of repaired vehicles.
12. Use tools and operate diagnostic and power equipment in the repair and adjustment of engines and components.
13. Participate in in-service and/or professional development programs, funded by the district, when requested by administrator/supervisor.
14. Comply with all applicable district, state, and federal policies and laws.
15. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
SALARY
- 2022-2023 Salary Scale $19.50 - $24.35. Placement on the salary schedule will be in accordance with the BSD 5J/OSEA collective bargaining agreement.
