Supports the engineering team by keeping laboratory, high bay, and machine shop areas functional. Assumes a supporting role in the development and testing of new products and on-going product updates. Assists in the qualification of the product designs to the required technical specifications. Participates in the design process working with Engineering, Operations, and Quality
- Supports Design Qualification Engineering in:
- Executing qualification test procedures/plans for both software (Functional, UI, and UX) and/or hardware (Electrical and mechanical).
- Testing and evaluating new product designs and substitute components against specifications.
- Identifying early failures or potential design and product life-cycle issues.
- The on-going improvement and maintenance of laboratory and machine shop equipment (power supplies, soldering stations, wave-form generators, oscilloscopes, drill presses, tools, etc.).
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and modifies developmental and production electronic components, parts, equipment, and test systems as needed.
- Assists in ensuring that all processes and procedures are accurately documented.
- Assists in ensuring that all tests are performed consistently.
- Assists and supports the evaluation of new materials, assembly processes, and technologies.
- Assists in designing, building, and maintaining test fixtures, tools, and equipment.
- Applies limited principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, and electronic/electrical testing. Applies limited principles and theories of mechanics and mechanical engineering (may be learned through prior formal education/training, others learned on-the-job).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Typically requires a 2-year Associate degree or 2-year trade-school degree in electrical, electronic, or mechanical engineering.
Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant technical experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of fundamental digital and analog electronic circuit design principles & components.
- Experience with basic electronics soldering, interface, and connection techniques.
- Experience with troubleshooting techniques using a variety of lab instruments and/or shop equipment.
- Experience in reading and schematics and drawings, identifying components, and component values.
- Experience with electronic and mechanical test equipment.
- Good social, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and similar products (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, etc.). Experience with using computers, operating systems, uploading and downloading software, and basic understanding of software functions.
