This position is a long-term guest teaching position. The assignment may require completion of the ESS Midwest (formerly PCMI) / Willsub application. More information will be provided upon placement.


General Summary:

The Academic Interventionist will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning. The Academic Interventionist will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding about researched-base effective instruction. In order to meet this purpose, the Academic Interventionist will provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers. The Academic Interventionist will report to the building principal.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of researched-based instructional strategies that engage all students.
  • Provides organized individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge using a variety of assessment tools.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
  • Provides support in analyzing student assessment data.
  • Assists teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data.
  • Assists teachers with specific classroom strategies when requested.
  • Provides support for classroom motivation and manage strategies.
  • Assists teachers in alignment with curriculum aligning lessons and units to meet student needs.
  • Monitors intervention programs by observing and meeting with teachers.
  • Instructs and supports teachers with curriculum software products and classroom/curriculum related technologies.
  • Provides assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
  • Models lessons when appropriate.
  • Encourages ongoing professional growth for all teachers.
  • Manages time and schedule flexibility that maximizes teacher schedules and learning.
  • Works positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
  • Develops and maintains a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers.
  • Possesses an understanding of when to contact administrators regarding issues of safety/ethics involving students in classroom observed.
  • Obtains advance approval of the Principal/Director of curriculum and Instruction for unique activities and expenditures.
  • Attends workshops/conferences to learn about new innovative instructional strategies.
  • Understand that job responsibilities may vary related to each building’s needs.
  • Performs duties as assigned by Principal and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
:

Minimum five years successful teaching and leadership experience at the elementary level, including the teaching of reading

Preferred major or minor in the teaching

Demonstrated use of best practices, beliefs and results for learning for all

Demonstrated effective use of technology in instructional settings

Strong and effective communication skills with students and adults, individually as well as in small or large groups

Ability to problem-solve and think futuristically

Demonstrate a willingness to listen and learn
