EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in construction, debugging, altering and repairing complicated tools and progressive dies (PROGRESSIVE)

OVERVIEW:

Diversified work. Plan, layout and perform all bench and machine operations to construct, alter or repair tools, fixtures or special machine parts. Work from complicated drawings and specifications, use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments for exacting measurements. Perform layout work and plan machine operations. Perform difficult machine setups and operations. Improvise tooling for unusual adaptations. Perform close and exacting bench operations to fit, align, calibrate, adjust and finish work.

EDUCATION: Requires the use of complicated drawings and specifications. Advanced shop mathematics, knowledge of shop theory and machine and tool design.

INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY:

Performs all duties of Tool and Die Maker A, but is a master craftsman working with any type of die, fixture and automated equipment in the company. Does related developmental work, oftentimes beyond blueprints. Progressive dies specifically.

Must be capable of the following:

• Must be a problem solver in a methodical way.
• Building complex progressive dies
• Able to fully debug and bring tooling to the point where the product produced is in compliance with the blueprint.
• Able to optimize production by altering press speeds with tool and progressive die capabilities.
• After a tool smash, using skills, to blend and tailor tool components beyond print specifications so that any job may run with the least amount of problems.
• Provides training of setup men and press operators.
• Contributes new thoughts and ideas on ways· and means to build and improve tools and progressive dies.
• Directs and instructs other die makers and production employees as required.
• Shows above average cooperation and attitude, willingness to sacrifice for the company's benefit.
• Able to perform major machine repairs on toolroom and stamping equipment.

ADDITIONAL SKILL SETS:

Must be capable of the following:

• Study blueprints, sketches, models, or written specifications in order to picture the final product.
• Set up and operate machine tools to shape the stock.
• Use hand tools to smooth and finish the workpiece.
• Use precision measuring instruments to check for proper dimensions of the workpiece.

Able to:

• Follow instructions carefully.
• Understand shop math.
• Picture 3-dimensional objects from drawings and diagrams.
• Work patiently to achieve the precision demanded by the work.
• Make decisions based on information that can be measured or checked.
• Adapt to performing a variety of duties which may change often.
• Coordinate eyes and hands or fingers to make precise movements.
• Able to demonstrate analytical skills and be detail-orientated in assessing blueprints and setting up and operating machine tools.
