  Job description may include technical and specialized duties requiring a high skill level in oral and written communications, critical thinking, initiative, and independent work requiring knowledge of theory, practices and procedures of the assigned area. Analyzing data; Preparing records; Writing reports; Creating videos; Managing confidential information; Maintain regular attendance; and Perform other job duties as assigned.
 
 Specific Duties 
 
  A Peer Mentor is a leader who helps ease the transition to college by creating a community in which newer students feel a sense of belonging and support. Peer Mentors organize and lead social and academic events to involve new students in campus life, provide mentoring services, and attend courses that they have previously taken in order to provide tailored tutoring support outside of class. Peer Mentors are role models of the highest caliber who lead new Cowboys and Cowgirls into the fold. Peer mentoring is a campus-wide initiative that will collaborate with multiple departments and programs to assist mentees with navigating campus resources, encouraging academic success and providing emotional support and validation.
  
 
  
 
  
 Minimum Qualifications 
 - Serve as an energetic and enthusiastic mentor to help students succeed at NMHU;
- Develop and maintain relationships with and provide assistance and support for students (focus on a smooth transition, acclimation, and a sense of belonging);
- Serve as a resource for students;
- Attend assigned sections of courses and take class notes;
- Plan and facilitate activities with students;
- Attend training workshops and meetings;
- Hold office/tutoring/mentoring hours to meet with students;
- Organize and facilitate study groups;
- Meet and collaborate with faculty and advisers;
- Establish communication channels with students;
- Serve as a positive role model socially, academically, and behaviorally;
- Maintain records as assigned;
- Maintain regular attendance;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Develop and schedule activity events, collaborate with other offices, and update a calendar of events;
  Education: College student at NMHU and classified as a sophmore, junior, or senior and enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours. Successfully completed one semester at NMHU. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Experience: Work experience in college.
 
 Preferred Qualifications 
 - Be in good academic and disciplinary standing (preferred: 3.0 GPA or higher)

- Excellent public speaking skills

- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, university community, and the general public.
  Frequently: Standing, Walking, Bending, Squatting, Kneeling, Repetitive hand motion, Prolonged use of computer. Occasionally: Lifting a minimum of thirty (30) pounds, Climbing.
 
 Hourly Rate $12.50 Preferred Work Schedule Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Employment Term Fall - Fall 2022, Spring - 2023 Work Location/Campus Center Las Vegas, NM Campus
