Job Summary

The Underwriter Trainee is an entry level position in Donegal’s Underwriting Career Development Program, and will be assigned to the Mountain States office in Albuquerque, NM. The candidate will be trained in the Commercial Lines Underwriting Department. Strong analytical skills and sound judgment are required to be successful in this role.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Select, price and develop coverage terms for accounts to achieve profitable underwriting results and assist with providing leadership, support and coaching for the underwriting function
• Manage a territory of independent agents to ensure that profitability and growth objectives for the company are being met
• Review new business applications to evaluate degree of risk involved; accept or decline risks based on company's underwriting policies

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business Administration or related degree or equivalent industry experience
• Demonstration of self-development by working towards attainment of professional insurance designations preferred: INS, CPCU, ARM, API, etc.
• Previous experience working in a professional office environment or prior insurance related experience
