University Cashier Job at Dillard University
Position Summary: The University Cashier is responsible for recording receipts from unrestricted and restricted funds, student loan funds, endowment funds, plant funds, and agency funds. Responsible for processing and disbursing student payroll, departmental checks, managing student account receivables, and cashier functions assigned. This position must communicate with account holders, university departments, and management personnel regarding refunds and insufficient payments with the general ledger account.
Responsibilities/Accountability:

- Provide professional client service in all interactions, including greeting the customer, thanking each person, and performing accurate transactions.
- Communicate and interact by telephone, e-mail, and in-person with students, parents, customers, vendors, and colleagues in a professional and tactful manner. Always provide prompt, accurate, and courteous customer service.
- Use Jenzabar EX to record cash payments to student and non-student accounts.
- Ensure each transaction is recorded promptly and correctly to guarantee the accuracy of student accounts and general ledger accounts.
- Accurately maintain custody of cash and checks processed in order to balance and account for all funds at the end of each business day.
- Post and reconcile University gift transactions for University Development Office. Manage disbursement and reconciliation of petty cash.
- Maintain an environment of strong internal controls over the accuracy, timeliness of recording and securing cash transactions.
- Work with other team members to coordinate, prioritize and organize activities to meet established goals and assigned deadlines.
- Disburses payroll and departmental reimbursement checks, when needed.
- Possess a working knowledge of Excel, Word to prepare and distribute reports, manage correspondence and conduct University Cashiering business.
- Counsel/advise students, parents, and staff on financial policy and procedures; respond to general inquiries about student account that includes but are not limited to: registration, requests for transcripts, student records, student invoices, payment plans, refunds, and loans.

- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), Associate’s or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel and other MS functions.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with diverse groups and individuals at various levels within the organization and the public.
- Two (2) years in cashiering or in bookkeeping or in an accounting environment.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Apply to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments. Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to work Independently.
Supervision:
This role has no supervisory responsibility.

Work Conditions
May require long hours sitting in front of a computer, walking across campus, and/or bending, stooping and lifting up to 20lbs.
Other:
The scope of the job frequently requires working in the evenings and on weekends for various events such as Student Orientation Advising and Registration, Athletic Games and etc.
