National Forest Foundation (NFF) is pleased to offer a regular, full-time, and exempt position that will support the development and implementation of recreation projects in the Forest Service’s Intermountain Region, with an initial focus on the Ashley and the Manti-La Sal National Forests in Utah.

Position* Function: The Utah Recreation Program Coordinator reports directly to the Senior Director of Conservation Programs and works closely with Northern Rockies-based program staff and other NFF staff and partners to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement priority projects on National Forests in the Intermountain Region, with an initial focus on initiatives for the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area (Ashley National Forest) and Bears Ears National Monument (Manti-La Sal National Forest). Specific efforts may include projects to enhance sustainable recreation, protection of resources impacted by recreation, increasing and enhancing recreation opportunities and settings, infrastructure improvements, and wildlife habitat improvements.

Position* Duties and Responsibilities. The Utah Recreation Program Coordinator will:
- Work with local, tribal, state, and federal partners to help develop scopes of work for large-scale, recreation, and restoration improvement and enhancement projects.
- Work with the U.S. Forest Service to identify, prioritize, and implement goals and objectives from recently signed management plans.
- Lead the advertisement, negotiation, and awarding of multiple contracts for services related to on-the-ground implementation of recreation and restoration projects.
- Work with the U.S. Forest Service to help develop, modify, manage, and track large-scale Stewardship Agreements and Challenge Cost Share Agreements associated with restoration and recreation projects.
- Manage budgets and reporting associated with grants from federal, state, and local government sources, as well as philanthropic support from corporations, foundations, and individuals.
- Support expansion of the base of private and public-sector supporters and partners by actively pursuing funding opportunities, creating new development opportunities, and writing grants.
- Build and maintain close and mutually beneficial relationships among federal and state agency partners, local government, tribal partners, nonprofit organizations, and the NFF to implement effective community-based conservation partnerships.
- Strengthen the NFF’s ability to support on-the-ground restoration and recreation projects by supporting activities that reinforce existing collaborations and help build new partnerships.
- Maintain a breadth of knowledge about current trends, emerging issues, policy interventions, and innovations in the field of conservation programming to enhance the NFF strategic efficacy.
- Serve as a point of contact for the NFF conservation activities in the Utah area.
- Assist as necessary with the NFF program of work in Utah, which may include the management of diverse, short-term projects.

Education* and* Qualifications.* NFF expects the Utah Recreation Program Coordinator to possess the following educational and experiential qualifications:
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree, in conservation, recreation planning, natural resource management, environmental science or related field.
- At least three years of work experience with conservation programs, project planning, and/or coordinating project implementation.
- Involvement in project planning, coordination, accomplishment and budget tracking, and project operations management that involve multiple implementation partners, contractors, contracts for services, and funding sources.
- Experience with land and watershed science, policy, and management, including recreation management, wildlife conservation, and/or forest restoration.
- Commitment to the mission of the NFF and familiarity with the U.S. Forest Service purpose and National Forest lands management.
- An understanding of Utah-based natural resources and community-based issues.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills.
- Strong writing skills and public speaking experience.

- Ability to act as a contract administrator and liaison between project contractors and the Forest Service.
- Ability to work remotely (e.g., home office).
- Must have valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record.

Location*: The location for this position is Utah – Preferably in Salt Lake City, Ogden, or surrounding areas. Applicants must be able to travel regularly throughout Utah. This position is a remote/work-from-home position and requires reliable internet access.

Compensation: * The NFF offers competitive compensation commensurate with candidate skills, experience, and location. Total rewards at NFF, beyond salary, include generous paid time off, employer contributions to health savings accounts, matching funds for retirement, and more. NFF has recently (August 2022) implemented a new compensation program with grade levels as part of our commitment to transparency. The salary range for this position will be in the $58,240 to $78,624 range. Please note that the indicated salary range describes the full range for an incumbent in this position. Most new staff generally start at the beginning of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.
