JOB TITLE: VAN DRIVER/RESIDENT SERVICES SPECIALIST

SUMMARY OF PURPOSE AND GOALS:
The Resident Services Specialist will be responsible for the daily operations of driving, working at the Reception Desk, light housekeeping, customer service, and other duties as assigned.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
TRIP PLANNING & IMPLEMENTATION: coordinates doctor/dentist trips by using the Van Sign Up book, and through communication with the Home Health Nurse or designee, and Health Center Charge Nurse or designee; maintains Van Sign Up book at Reception Desk one month at a time; includes sheets for future months for doctor/dentist visits.
Plans route for day trips and obtain necessary maps; determines time and location of pickup at shopping malls, downtown, etc., and whether passenger will be returning in the van; maintains records (in the office) of suggestions for future trips.
Establishes the cost of each trip (per resident) based upon mileage, admission fees, ferry fees, and other fees that may be incurred.
If sack lunches are included in the day trip, arrange for lunches with Food Services Department at least 24 hours in advance.
Purchases gas for van; turns in all gas receipts to Accounts Payable at the end of each week; maintains mileage log in the vehicle.
Assists each resident/passenger in and out of the van as needed.
Uses the Resident Services Alert Form to report concerns, issues, and/or observations of residents.
VEHICLE MAINTENANCE: visually inspects the van that will be used prior to departure from Bayview, this includes visually inspecting all tires for proper inflation and tread wear, ensuring that all lights (headlights, tail lights, and turn indicators) are in proper working order, and with assistance from the Maintenance Department, ensuring that all fluids (oil, cooling system, brake fluid, and transmission fluid) are at proper levels; keeps a log of each vehicle inspection and submits it to the Maintenance Department at the end of each month; keeps the interior of the van clean. Notifies the Maintenance Department immediately of any detected maintenance deficiency, and when regularly scheduled maintenance is required.

OTHER: complies with applicable laws and regulations including the state criminal background check; attends mandatory meetings and in-service training programs; adheres to Bayview’s policies and procedures; respects the confidentiality of information relating to residents, children, families, staff, and sensitive business information; cooperates with annual tuberculosis testing and/or symptom screening; responds appropriately to emergency situations using knowledge and skills to protect the well-being of one’s self and others; performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and Skill
- High School diploma or GED.
- Current Washington State Driver’s License
- Evidence of good driving record and good driving skills
- Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid.
- Working knowledge of word processing software.
- Must be patient and respectful with residents, passengers, staff, and others.

- Is supervised by Life Enrichment Manager or his/her designee.
- Judgment and Mental Demands
- Frequently expected to satisfy resident requests.
- Occasionally required to solve unique problems relating to scheduling, vehicle maintenance, and resident and/or vehicle safety.

- Nearly constant interaction with residents.
- Frequent contact with staff.
- Occasionally interacts with visitors.
- Occasional contact with persons in the geographic region for the purpose of making reservations and inquiries.
- Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Position requires an active combination of driving a motor vehicle (extensive sitting), desk-work and walking from one location to another to facilitate communication and to transport residents.
- Occasional lifting and carrying packages weighing up to 10 lbs. for the residents.
- Rarely expected to lift and carry residents’ packages weighing between 11 to 25 lbs. or transfer a food cooler with resident lunches weighing 26 to 50 lbs. to or from a movable cart.
- Stress levels vary from low to high (e.g., increased stress in challenging driving conditions).
