POSITION SUMMARY:
The duties and responsibilities of the DVSOS include, but not limited to, recruitment and outreach activities, event planning and oversight, application processing, veteran benefit certification, and all relevant application advising; develop and implement marketing plans to facilitate enrollment; establish an environment and actions that lead to the best possible retention rates for the veteran population; establish relationships with federal, state and local veteran services organizations; and assist with certifying enrollments for veterans benefits; schedule and oversee staff training, student orientations, and special events such as master classes, film screening, etc., be responsible for identifying and serving as a resources for enrolled students, dependents; alumni, NYFA faculty, and staff; and ensure that the Director and VP of Strategic Initiatives are kept informed about all important issues and activates involving veteran students and activities and chain-of-command protocols are followed.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary.
- Serve as the primary contact for currently enrolled and prospective veterans and benefit-eligible dependents on campus.
- Provide accurate information to all interesting veterans regarding current educational benefits and programs provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Attend monthly open house events, veteran specific professional development events and facilitate specific division of Veterans Services events such as Master Classes.
- Assist DVS Director in executing outreach and recruitment activities.
- Facilitate appropriate referrals to other internal and external support programs, such as NYFA Counseling Services, Academic Services, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVS), Vet Centers and Department of Labor Veterans Employment.
- Serve as the primary contact in the certification of veteran’s GI Bill education benefits to the Department of Veterans Affairs, processing Military Tuition Assistance.
- Organize outreach efforts to educate those currently serving in the United States military, veterans and their family members about the educational programs offered at the New York Film Academy.
- Assist veteran students in the development of a recognized student organization.
- Expand formal partnerships with external resources on behalf of the New York Film Academy.
- Develop an orientation program for veterans enrolled at the New York Film Academy.
- Serve as the primary contact to support NYFA DVS marketing efforts.
- Assist in additional tasks, projects and activities as needed and at the request of NYFA and DVS leadership.
KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge and understanding of the Department of Veterans Affairs GI bill education benefits.
- Knowledge of processing veterans GI bill education benefits, and Military Tuition Assistance
- Must adhere to protocols set forth by the Division of Veterans Services.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:
- 1-2 years of related prior experience
- Bachelor's Degree in related fields
- Military Veteran a plus but not required
