Vice President of Douglas County Initiatives Job at United Way of Greater Topeka
Our company is seeking an experienced Vice President to oversee the operations of our Douglas County Initiatives. The VP leads the strategic investment of United Way's financial and nonfinancial resources to create the greatst possible impact in helping improve outcmoes for individuals and familiies in Douglas County. Essential to this work is:
- Developming and adopting investment goals
- Implementing a strategic and cohesive plan for impact to make progress on these goals
- Understanding community needs, resources, and local and national best practice strategies
- Leveraging and aligning Douglas County's unique strengths and abilities to support the strategies
- Engaging in relationships and partnerships
- Measuring and reporting results
The VP of DGCO Initiatives leads the Douglas County Advisory Council and supervises the Douglas County Director of Community Engagement.
Responsibilities:
Operational Management
- Work in partnership with CEO/President and Douglas County Advisory Council to provide vision/direction for operations in Douglas County.
- Work in partnership with CEO/President to identify and recruit a diverse and dynamic group of business, academic and community change leaders to serve on the advisory council and community impact committee.
- Prepares agenda and serves as the lead staff to the Douglas County Advisory Council
- Provide supervision and direction to Douglas County Director of Community Engagement.
- Provides direction and guidance as needed to the Director of Marketing and Development and Douglas County Accounting Specialist.
- Ensure that quality control policies and procedures are in place and consistently practiced in grant making and grant management activities.
- Develop annual budgets for Douglas County initiatives and operations and ensure they operate within the adopted budget with support of staff.
- Work collaboratively with United Way executive leadership team to ensure organizational success.
Community Impact
- Lead and direct Douglas County’s short and long-term community impact efforts.
- Oversee the development and implementation of all strategies and identify and monitor key indicators that measure the effectiveness of Douglas County community impact efforts.
- Plan and coordinate the distribution of all allocations, fund distribution processes, and community investment strategies as they relate to meeting the goals of the Douglas County Advisory Council and UWKV Board of Directors.
- Oversee outcomes and evaluation activities related to community impact; provide leadership and consultation in the measurement of outcomes and the review of agency use of information.
- Represent UWKV in various human service collaborations, committees, and activities; Represents UWKV in collaborative efforts with government, other non-profits and businesses.
- Identify and prioritize internal and external needs related to community impact, analyze alternative program strategies, and develop innovative initiatives in line with the community identified issues and UWKV’s strategic plan; prepare reports on research of community issues, community needs, non-profit agencies, populations of focus, etc.
Community Donor Relations/Relationship Management/Grant Making
- Works with the VP of Resource Development in integrating investment product development with fundraising, marketing and communications and volunteer development to generate the resources necessary to carry out the strategies and community impact.
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
Skills:
- Must have well-developed technical and analytical skills related to planning and evaluation.
- Must have the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, meeting deadlines and attending to details.
- Must have the ability and desire to meet, develop relationships, and work with a variety of people.
- Must have the ability to present information and data in written, electronic, and oral forms to diverse target markets.
- Expected to have a commitment to excellence and to the mission of UWKV.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
