Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Vice President of Operations - HDPE Pipe & Conduit Strategic Business Unit. Reporting to the VP/GM - HDPE Pipe & Conduit, this person will have responsibility for supporting current and new manufacturing at multiple facilities across the U.S., including reaching the production and profitability goals, productivity initiatives, organizational structure, and performance management. They will also have a detailed plan including professional training and diverse operational responsibilities and projects for all manufacturing, quality, engineering, procurement, environmental health and safety and continuous improvement for the production of HDPE pipe, conduit and fittings across these manufacturing facilities in North America.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, lean manufacturing expertise, and 15 years of experience in extrusion or plastics manufacturing. Experience in HDPE pipe manufacturing is a plus.

What you’ll do:

  • Providing comprehensive leadership by developing the strategy and directing all aspects of operations at three plants in their region.
  • Drive best practice standardization across all plants,
  • Ensure standardized and accurate reporting of the TTI dashboard across all plants.
  • Drive lean concepts into all plants.
  • Ensure SIOP processes are being executed in the plants.
  • Assist the VP/GM in creating an executable and efficient production strategy across the different regions in the country.
  • Establishing and refining performance metric goals and objectives.
  • Building the best organizational structure and managing headcount to optimize conversion cost and productivity across the plants.
  • Working with Plant Managers to direct and manage plant operations for production, maintenance, quality, and shipping and receiving.
  • Coordinating plant activities with departmental managers to ensure manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Spending time with Sales on customer visits, building relationships and understanding the voice of the customer
  • Partnering with Human Resources to enhance leadership skills, including performance management, talent management and employee relations
  • Working with Finance to understand and implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, capital asset maintenance and wages and salaries.
  • Developing leadership and participating in training to accomplish the company goals and objectives.
  • Partnering with Environmental Health and Safety to develop competencies and understand compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Working with lean leaders to develop business systems knowledge and Lean Manufacturing to include KPI visual reporting and actively participate in Lean Daily Management activities, including GEMBA walks and Kaizen events.
  • Complete other projects, initiatives, duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Grow the skills of plant leadership through mentorship and education.
  • Improve the breadth and depth of lean manufacturing skills and culture in all plants.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering / business or related discipline. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • 15years of operations experience in extrusion or plastics manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and competencies.
  • Proven ability to understand P&L and apply that knowledge to affect change.
  • Proficient computers knowledge (Microsoft Office, etc)
  • Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures required.
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience with ability to articulate improvements and savings to the organization.
  • Professional and positive approach, self-motivated, strong in building relationships, team player, dynamic, creative with the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of HDPE pipe extrusion process desired.
  • Deep knowledge of contemporary tools, manufacturing processes and systems, including Lean Manufacturing is critical.
  • Possess the skills of a change agent and have demonstrated success in implementing structured operations practices.
  • Must have experience in managing and working with distributed team members.
  • Approachable with excellent problem solving, interpersonal communication and project management skills a must.
  • Strong leadership skills that inspire team confidence and respect while motivating team members in a creative and effective manner.
  • Must have a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process and product quality and reliability.
  • 50% + travel may be required.

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore’s strategy.

  • Gain an understanding of the training materials and procedures your team owns.

Within 6 months, you’ll:

  • Partner with Safety, Quality, and HR to investigate and provide corrective measures for on-the-job accidents, injuries, customer complaints, and labor relations issues.
  • Identify ways to strengthen the team’s commitment to Atkore’s core values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.
  • Fully understand how you and your team impact Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Update training materials and procedures, as necessary.

Within 12 months, you’ll:

  • Be managing an efficient team that delivers Atkore’s strategy.
  • Create and update reports, training materials and documentation.
  • Have meaningful performance conversations with your direct reports.
