Job Description

The Vice President, Technology Operations will work closely with the CIO to develop and execute the strategic roadmap to meet the growing scientific computing needs. This position is a hands-on leader who is able to provide leadership and technical guidance as needed. Daily responsibilities include directing, through specialized managers, a high-performance computing datacenter with multiple computational clusters and environments, high throughput networks and large scale out storage systems; ensure the scientists have computing tools that provide rapid, secure access to computational resources as well as executing strategic long-term goals, policies and operational procedures for IT.

  • Develop programmatic responses and resource deployment strategies to support research

  • Determine and provide solutions for the acquisition and implementation of IT hardware,
  • software, systems and services to accomplish scientific and business objectives.
  • Effectively manage departments responsible for determining and providing solutions
  • surrounding IT hardware, software, systems and services; maintaining infrastructure including email, LAN, WANS, wireless networks, internet connections, telecommunications, network and application servers, remote VPN access, network and information security, desktop computing, backup and recovery, AV communication and conferencing, secure file transfers, user training and helpdesk.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree and ten or more years of experience in leading IT teams
  • Strong technical skills to include systems design and architecture and computer programming
  • with at least one high level language.
  • Experience and background with high performance computing is strongly desired.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of business theory, processes, management, project management and budgeting.
  • Previous experience with a non-profit research organization is desired.
  • Proven experience in IT planning, organization and development
  • Excellent people management skills and the ability to motivate in team-oriented, collaborative
  • environment
  • Willingness and desire to delve into the details
