LA MediaWorksis a small media company based in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. Having spent 18 years living in Los Angeles building a client base, the creative work we are so lucky to do revolves around the promotion and distribution of materials to showcase the talents and abilities of actors, directors, and production companies.

Bottom line… we create kick-ass media materials to promote people and their projects within the entertainment industry. Video portfolio reels, Pitch sizzle reels, Graphic design based EPK’s, websites, and social media elements… anything that helps a person sell themselves and their talents.

About the Job

The term “video editor” is fairly broad. What we are looking for are people who can tell a story through editing. Someone who can take 100 clips from various movies or television shows, and find the narrative and flow that exists in the clips to allow for a final edit that is both entertaining and informative.

The actual editing part of the job, while important, is only a small portion of the work. Planning the edit, choosing the clips that best represent a client’s talents, and executing the plan is as much of the job as the actual assembly of clips.

We are looking for someone who understands how to creatively assemble an edit that grabs attention and keeps attention. People with experience creating high level marketing video assets.

Technical skills

FCPX is a must. If you don’t have experience with it, please don’t apply. The robust keywording feature is one that is critical to the organization of our clips, so while we appreciate our Premiere and Avid friends, we have been firmly seated in the Apple camp for years.

A general understanding of things like frame rates, video and audio codecs, and video resolution are important to understand. An existing knowledge of these things is a huge plus.

We’d like it if you…

• Owned the Internet… and we don’t just mean someone who can post on Instagram. We are talking about an Internet search master. Someone that can identify a helpful website from click bait in moments… someone that doesn’t just look at the first two results to come to a conclusion on something… and someone who thrives on being up to date on the latest tips and tricks for browsers, search, and discovery. Huzzah!
• Knew your way around a MAC (back and front, up and down) this is important. We move quick. I need someone who embraces keyboard shortcuts… someone who understands file types (how a JPG is different from a PNG) and someone that is aware of file sizes and best practices for how to move small and large files.
• Already watch movies and tv and are generally aware of actors, what they have been in, and understand all the available streaming services and what content can be found where. For example… how do I watch last night’s episode of “Bob’s Burgers” or what service streams the new “Yellowstone” prequel. If you don’t already know… how quickly can you find out?
• Have an awareness and appreciation for design. Be able to feedback on projects, share ideas, and bring fun and exciting things that you see in the world back to the the team for reference and consideration.

Location

We work in a studio loft space in downtown Lincoln. We are looking for someone who can work on-site and someone who is ok working in a shared space. This position requires a minimum of 20 hours per week, with flexibility around days and times. We are also hiring full time editors (40 hours). Starting pay is commensurate with experience.
