RATE OF PAY: Grade 1 – $12.00 hour
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: Avg. 25 hours per week
NUMBER OF MONTHS PER YEAR: Average 3+ months
LOCATION: Main Office, North Tazewell, Virginia
This position is classified as Medium Risk for COVID-19 Standards
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The role of the VITA Program Assistant is to assist in the VITA program to ensure that the program serves the maximum number of individuals/families that may be entitled to a refund or credit.
- Prepares tax appointment files per client.
- Assists tax clients with preparation of required paperwork and accompanying documentation. This will primarily a virtual process using telephone, drop-off, and email communications.
- Assists in entering and maintaining tax client information in client database.
- Assists in follow-up with clients for acquiring missing and required information.
- Assists in setting up tax review/signature appointments with clients.
- Helps with administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school graduate or have a GED
Prefer recent (within prior three tax seasons) tax preparation experience
Have ability to perform basic math, including percentages and averages with a calculator
Be willing to work a flexible schedule
Good oral and written communication skills
Good computer skills in Microsoft Office
Possess, or be willing to get, IRS Certification for tax preparation
Have ability to work independently
Have ability to meet deadlines
Be detail oriented and organized
Possess good time management skills
Have ability to maintain discretion with confidential data
Have a good work ethic
Have ability and willingness to drive to VITA sites
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Prior to hire, with conditional employment, the individual must submit to satisfactory criminal background checks, national sex offender check, satisfactory reference checks (minimum of two), a pre-employment drug/alcohol test, and complete a Sworn Disclosure statement. After initial hire, the employee must submit to Child Protective Services check, DMV check, TB Screening or PPD. The individual must have reliable transportation, hold a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record, provide proof of automobile liability insurance, and be willing to use personal automobile for work purposes. S/He must agree to submit to random, and, if applicable, post-accident and reasonable suspicion, drug/alcohol tests;
