Based in Louisville, Kentucky, our Home Office team is looking for a Vice President of Government Affairs. This role is a flexible, hybrid position.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
The Vice President of Government Relations is the primary point of contact for all legislative and government relation issues on behalf of Trilogy Health Services. The successful candidate is responsible for strategizing, developing and implementing state legislative campaigns in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, engaging with state legislators and state associations on issues of importance to Trilogy. This role is also responsible for collaborating with the American Health Care Association and other national organizations to coordinate issues of importance at the federal level by engaging with federal officials and members of Congress. The VP of Government Relations serves as the primary point of contact for any external government relations firms as well as the Trilogy Political Action Committee and PACs for each state, AHCA, PAC, Argentum PAC and others as approved by Trilogy. Other key responsibilities include:
  • Assists the Trilogy CEO & President in preparing and reporting any legislative and governmental relations matters as required by law.
  • Organizes legislative visits at campuses to educate them on key issues.
  • Attends association committee meetings to learn member issues and support the main staff person of those committees on legislative matters.
  • Assists with media and public relations messaging, particularly pertaining to matters that impact legislative, regulatory and political matters.
  • Staffs the Government Affairs Committee of each association (or designee).
  • Supports and conducts research and provides regular written and verbal reports to the Trilogy CEO and executive leadership.
  • Organizes member visits to congressional delegation members for AHCA's congressional briefing, as well as other engagement with the delegation.
  • Coordinates issues of importance at the federal level with AHCA.
  • Organizes legislative visits with members of Congress to educate them on key issues.
  • Serves as the Treasurer of the Trilogy PAC (if operational), maintaining compliance with reporting requirements to each state's election division and federal requirements.
  • Leads the development fundraising and executes contribution strategies in coordination with state associations and AHCA.
  • Assists with planning and execution of Trilogy PAC fundraisers.
  • Works with internal personnel and external government affairs contractors to ensure compliance with Lobby Registration Commission requirements and deadlines for the incumbent and internal registered lobbyists.
  • Travel: 50% including overnight stay as necessary.
  • Performs all other duties as needed at the direction of the Trilogy CEO.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Law Degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Current license in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio or Wisconsin preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in government relations engaging with state legislatures in assisted living, senior living or long-term care or other health care industry, including experience with Medicare/Medicaid services.
  • Minimum five (5) years in a leadership role strategizing, developing and executing legislative agenda.
  • Multi-facility, multi-state experience highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory and reimbursement structures within which long-term care and assisted living facilities operate in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
  • Exemplary computer skills that include knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and provide creative solutions.

Physical requirements

Sitting, standing, bending, reaching, stretching, stooping, walking, and moving intermittently during working hours. Must be able to lift at least 50lbs. Must be able to maintain verbal and written communication with co-workers, supervisors, residents, family members, visitors, vendors, and all business associates outside of the health campus.
