Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Wetland Biologist/Ecologist for our upstate New York region. The position could sit in the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, or Clifton Park NY offices. We are looking for an experienced scientist to lead field data collection efforts associated with wetlands delineations, endangered species habitat assessments, and environmental assessments. The position requires a thorough understanding of stream/wetland determination/delineation methods, and plant identification skills specific to the Northeast area. This position also requires familiarity with federal and state environmental permitting. This role will support several Arcadis clients in New York, Pennsylvania, including various energy development projects, including electrical transmission, natural gas pipeline and renewable energy projects.

This scientist will have exceptional technical writing skill and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. This position will require field work and office work, at times spending as much as 50-75% of time in the field.

Role accountabilities:

• Lead field efforts including wetland determination/delineation surveys, flora/fauna surveys, and habitat assessments; as well as the completion of associated reporting
• Complete data collection during field surveys using Trimble GeoX handheld units and tablets utilizing Collector and Survey 123 for ArcGIS
• Assist with the development of permit applications, including state and federal USACE Section 404/Section 10 permits and Section 401 Water Quality Certification
• Lead agency consultations regarding threatened and endangered species, and supporting species and habitat surveys
• Assist with writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda
• Manage desktop environmental assessments using GIS and other available methods to address potential permitting requirements
• Support environmental assessments associated with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and New York State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Act reviews

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or similar environmental discipline
• 3 years of experience conducting wetland delineations using the U.S Army Corps of Engineers Midwest, Northeast, and/or Northcentral Regional Supplements
• Minimum of 1-year leading wetland delineations
• Experience using GPS field technology

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional Wetland Society In-Training (PWSIT) certification
• Experience with ArcGIS, GoogleEarth and other desktop mapping applications
• Experience conducting USACE/NYSDEC wetland field confirmation site visits.
