Essential Functions

  • Provide WIC certification procedures on participants, which include height, and weight assessment and collecting blood samples for hemoglobin and lead analysis.
  • Complete all other aspects of the certification process including appropriate documentation, assignment of food packages, nutrition counseling and referral for medical or social services, and assignment of interim nutrition education activity.
  • Evaluate participants’ nutritional status through dietary history and consultations. Considers nutritional needs, family income, cultural food patterns, home facilities and modifications in diet when talking with participants.
  • Utilize Value Enhanced Nutrition Education techniques in counseling participants and developing nutrition plan with clients.
  • Make every effort to communicate with participants in their primary language, utilizing available resources.
  • Actively promote breastfeeding as the preferred nutrition for infants, counsels and educates participants as appropriate.
  • Participate in data collection for assessments and reports.
  • Promote the WIC program in the community according to the outreach plan.
  • Develops class outlines and educations materials appropriate for use with participants, as necessary.
  • Teache nutrition education classes, as assigned.
  • Participate in community activities and organizations pertinent to the WIC program.
  • Service within community groups and functions, occasionally outside usual office hours.
  • Assist with clerical duties when necessary to expedite clinic flow.
  • Ensure that all participants regardless of race, gender, culture, primary language or religious beliefs are treated equally and all needs are accommodated so that high quality services are provided to all.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Have a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition
  • Be a Registered Dietitian.
  • Be a Registered Nurse.

Prefered Experience

  • A minimum of one year experience in Women, Infant, and Children's Program.
