Work Experience Specialist– State of Louisiana

Opportunity Now is a program of the XP Synergy Companies. The Work Experience Specialist will act as the primary liaison for Vocational Rehabilitation programs as it pertains to student employment under Opportunity Now’s Adult Services Division. The Work Experience Specialist works with and under the direct supervision of the Director of Adult Services to support comprehensive programs intended to engage high school students’ employment opportunities. These programs promote self-sufficiency and enrich the lives of participants with various backgrounds through career opportunities that lends to an enhanced quality of life.

Responsibilities

· Follow established policies and procedures for maintaining the integrity of the program and ensure those policies are being implemented among staff

· Assist in the development of short and long-term plans for programs, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance.

· Assist in design of performance objectives and implement and monitor programming to meet desired outcomes.

· Support planning and coordination of a program and its activities

· Ensure that databases are maintained, which includes keeping participant and prospect information and mailing list updated.

· Organize and establish meetings on regular basis with Job Coaches, who are responsible for establishing job placements for high school students.

· Monitoring and supporting Job Coaches and Employment Specialists by articulating expectations, displaying model behavior, maintaining open lines of communication and being clear about roles and relationships.

· Assist with the development of program marketing and communications strategies to support program goals and increase community awareness.

· Develop specific job opportunities that match the participants’ skills, work experience, related training and interests.

· Screen and match Opportunity Now participants with employment opportunities based on their skills, work experience, hobbies, and interests.

· Maintain relationships with existing employers and establish relationships with new employers who are willing to hire Opportunity Now participants.

· Track job placements within assigned region per job coaches.

**Frequent Travel is a requirement for this position - estimated 75%

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, rehabilitation services, or related disciplines, with 2 years of direct supervisory or management experience.

· Knowledge of principles and practices related to work readiness and life skills, educational issues, community services, or adult workforce development.

· Three years of work experience in a human services field, education, or career/employment counseling or related field

· UNTWISE Credentials in a minimal of two of the following: Texas Vocational Adjustment Training; Job Skills; Job Placement, Work Readiness, and/or Supported Employment

· Must have strong and polished interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

· Creative, strategic, and analytical thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects.

· Must be highly organized and able to work well with others.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer application and database management.

· Able to work with a variety of populations, including returning citizens, individuals with disabilities, and high school students.

· Flexible; possessing the ability to wear different, “hats” on short notice.

· Must have reliable, independent transportation and be willing to travel as this position requires frequent travel to several of our offices in the state.

· Must be able to pass a background check

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $46,500.00 per year
