Yakutat Clerk of Court - Part Time (1099) Job at State of Alaska

The Yakutat District Court of the Alaska Court System is accepting applications for a part-time Clerk of Court (salary range 12) to provide administrative assistance to court visitors and clerical support for the court's traveling Magistrate Judge. This will also provide secondary remote coverage for the Haines, Hoonah, and Skagway courts.

This position is scheduled to work 10 hours per week. Work schedule will be coordinated in consultation between the hiring supervisor and the selected applicant.

Regular job duties will include the following:

  • Greet and assist customers at the front counter and on the telephone.
  • Answer general questions, perform copy requests, and process marriage license applications.
  • Accept filings, perform notary public duties, and perform record searches.
  • Accept and receipt filing fees, fine payments, bail, restitution, and other fees.
  • Receive and assign case numbers for civil and small claims cases.
  • Set up criminal, minor offense, civil and small claims cases.
  • Issue summons for civil and small claims cases and process all documents filed.
  • Prepare weekly bank deposits and reconciliation reports.
  • Serve as an in-court clerk as necessary.
  • Maintain court supplies and forms; place orders as needed and stock all items; update manuals as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

** This position participates in the Alaska Supplemental Benefits System (SBS), accrues personal leave, and receives up to 11 paid holidays (pro-rated). This position does not qualify for health insurance benefits nor does it participate in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). **

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of general clerical, office or retail work experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net).

OR

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net).

KEYBOARDING CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Attach a recent keyboarding certification (dated within one year) to your application that verifies your keyboarding speed of 40 wpm or higher (net). SELECTION PROCEDURE
