JOB DETAILS:

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Y-CAP Assistant will be involved in tutoring and mentoring at-risk youth. Y-CAP (YMCA Community Action Program) provides services and a structured program for children ages 10-14 who have been referred either through the juvenile court system or the school system. Each child and his/her family have a personalized treatment plan which addresses their spiritual, physical, mental, and social needs. Hours are Monday-Thursday 1:00 - 6:30pm, with extended hours during the summer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Be a positive role model
• Assist with schoolwork
• Provide behavioral guidance
• Implements daily lesson/activity plans within established guidelines
• Supervises children, classroom, and all activities
• Ensures the children's safety
• Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child
• Maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents/guardians
• Maintains program site and equipment
• Maintains required program records. i.e sign in/sign out rosters
• Monitors and engages in games and activities with children
• Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training
• Handles emergencies as they happen
• Develops positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must at least 18 years of age
• Must possess a high school diploma/GED; some college preferred
• Must possess a valid Driver's license
• Experience working with youth strongly preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, stoop and lift.
