Youth Care Assistant Job at The Village For Families & Children
Starting rate: $18.00 commensurate with experience
JOB SUMMARY
The Youth Care Assistant is responsible to provide continuous safety observation of patients to which they are assigned. The primary function of this role is to ensure patient safety and comfort. The Youth Care Assistant may engage with the patients as appropriate and can use causal talk and/or utilizing cards, coloring books, puzzles etc. to increase patient’s comfort. They will also work under direct nurse supervision to provide hands on care to youth, including vital signs, first aid, and notify nursing of significant changes. The Youth Care Assistant will provide emotional support to youth and families to support a therapeutic environment. The Youth Care Assistant ensures the patient environment is free of items that can harm to self or others.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains a direct line of sight at all times, including when family is in the room.
- Ensures a safe, risk free environment by utilizing knowledge of self-harm prevention.
- Intervenes as needed to prevent patient from harming self or others. Seeks immediate assistance for escalating incidents.
- Completes vital signs and glucose monitoring.
- Works under direct nurse supervision for task completion within training scope.
- Helps maintain supplies and equipment stock in collaboration with nursing.
Required Experience:
EDUCATION
- Certified Nurse Assistant or Patient Care Assistant certifications required.
- CPR certification required.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience working with children in a healthcare or residential setting preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer services skills.
- Flexible and able to multi-task.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
