THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services, North East Secure Treatment Unit is seeking dedicated first-line supervisors to effectively guide, assist, and motivate staff to make a difference in the lives of court-adjudicated youth. We are seeking supervisors who are willing to roll up their sleeves and actively engage in working directly with the people you supervise, will develop effective relationships with staff and court-adjudicated youth to help address personal problems, and provide positive reinforcement to instill proper attitudes and responsible behaviors, and respond well in controversial situations and hold others and their self accountable for actions. This position involves a willingness to work with a diverse population along with a driving desire to make a difference in the lives of youth.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

You will actively supervise employees involved in providing guidance, instruction, treatment, and specialized services to court-adjudicated youth in a secure or restricted setting; assign tasks to staff and ensure timely completion of reports; participate with staff in providing for the physical care, custody, and supervision of the youths’ daily activities that include recreation, housekeeping, personal hygiene, work assignments, and program requirements; assist professional staff in implementing treatment plans and reporting youths’ progress in attaining goals; communicate with youth about their thought processes, actions, and personal problems to provide insight into responsible behaviors and attitudes; maintain order by verbally and physically intervening with disruptive, emotionally improper, and suicidal youth; use appropriate physical restraint techniques to prevent escapes, control aggressiveness, and maintain a safe, secure or restricted environment is required. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• The Department of Human Services provides excellent benefits, pay increases, paid leave and holidays, as well as opportunities for career advancement.
• Full-time employment.
• Work hours are rotating shift work in a 24/7/365 operation, holidays and weekends, 8-hour shifts with no duty-free lunch. Work weeks are 5 days on with 2 set regular days off. You may be assigned to any of the following shifts:
  • 1st shift: 7:00am to 3:00pm
  • 2nd shift: 3:00pm to 11:00pm
  • 3rd shift: 11:00pm to 7:00am
• Shift work: Yes.
• Overtime: As needed - voluntary and possible mandatory.
• Travel: As needed.
• May change based on operational needs.
• You must be willing to accept employment at North East Secure Treatment Unit and commute to this location in Pittston, PA, Luzerne County.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience as a Youth Development Aide; or
• Two years of experience in the care, custody, activities, or personal guidance of adolescents or adults in a behavioral, educational, or community-based capacity; or
• One year of experience in the care, custody, activities, or personal guidance of adolescents or adults in a behavioral, educational, or community-based capacity, and completion of 30 college credits, which included 12 credits in behavioral sciences or criminal justice.

Necessary Special Requirement:

• You must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.

Legal Requirements:

• This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
  • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
• A conditional offer of employment will require a satisfactory completion of a medical examination.
