In this position you will help create and maintain a healthful, safe and therapeutic environment for the children. You will help implement each child's individual treatment goals, provide positive role models for children and ensure that the basic psychological needs of the children for nurturance, structure, and counseling are met.

A Partial list of responsibilities (A full list is on the job description):

• Supervision of the cottage environment as it pertains to knowing the whereabouts of each youngster at all times.
• Report missing children immediately to the Administrator on Duty or Cottage Manager.
• Must be able to perform physical intervention (restraints) as per the Agency’s restraint policy.
• Provide input to treatment team meetings for the planning of each child's treatment goal(s) and techniques.
• Instruct, guide and assist children in several areas (listed on full job description)
• Provide support to children in crisis through the use of therapeutic crisis intervention techniques, including the use of physical restraint and life space interviews. Please note that therapeutic physical restraint may only be used after a Youth Care Specialist has received specific training in this area at the Agency.
• Transport children to off-campus appointments and for travel home as assigned.
• Perform other duties assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (copy required upon initial hire date)
• Valid New York State Driver’s License (copy required upon initial hire date)
• Yearly Physical (required within one month after initial hire date)
• Ability to work with a diverse population presenting a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, developmental and sexual identities. Must have the ability and willingness to establish and foster healthy and supportive relationships that acknowledge individual identities and encourage personal growth.

PREFERRED:

• BS or AAS Degree in Related Field
• Previous Child Care Experience
