Youth Theatre Supervisor Job at Champaign Park District
SUMMARY
Youth Theatre Supervisor is responsible for selecting and directing youth theatre productions. They will work with 3rd graders to 12th graders in mini to full-stage productions. The Youth Theatre Supervisor is also responsible for conducting workshops throughout the year and working with the summer and afterschool youth programs in mini-workshops. They will also help with training in various areas creating and performing role-playing scenarios to help teach summer youth program leaders different ways to handle situations they may encounter.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have at least 5 years of experience in theatre
- Must have at least 5 years of experience working with children of assigned age group
- Ability to plan and lead recreational activities for children at assigned age level
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Park District staff and the general public
- Positive “CAN-DO” team attitude
SUPERVISION
Youth Theatre Supervisor reports directly to the Cultural Arts Manager. Youth Theatre Supervisor oversees a Youth Theatre Assistant Supervisor, Choreographers, Music Director and volunteers
TRAINING CAN BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE CHAMPAIGN PARK DISTRICT
- Bloodborne pathogen training
- CPR, First Aid, and AED training from American Red Cross or an accredited agency
- Mandated reporter certification
- Facility training
- Harassment prevention training
- Anyone driving a Champaign Park District vehicle will need to complete and pass a driving test from a certified Champaign Park District trainer
CLASSIFICATION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves
- Plan, organize, and implement the production of the Youth Theatre Program.
- Responsible for meeting with the music, and choreographer directors to plan and develop the vision of the performance. Responsible for the coordination and collection of props and costumes
- Train, discipline, and supervise staff and volunteers assigned or selected to assist with the production
- Maintain frequent communication with the Theatre Technical Director regarding the design and construction of scenic elements
- Maintain good public relations with participants, parents, other staff members, and general public
- Assist in the promotion of each production by doing live TV or Radio spots
- Work within allotted production budget
- Responsible for the purchase, maintenance and safe and proper use of program supplies
- Maintain the program environment in a clean and orderly fashion
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for participants, staff and volunteers
- Maintain records of program operations including participant files, incident/accident reports, release waivers, attendance and check-in/check-out sheets
- Maintain check lists for each show on volunteer background checks, waivers, and sign in/out sheets tracking hours for all volunteers of the Youth Theatre Program
- Responsible for parent communication including parent newsletters, rehearsal schedules, and program ads and sponsorships
- Responsible for following all Park District policies and procedures

- Attend all required meetings
- Attend work calls, load-in and load-out
- Other duties as assigned

- Must be able to respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of the Champaign Park District
PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
- The Youth Theatre Supervisor may need to respond quickly and accurately
- Must be able to be physically active to lead activities and rehearsals
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
- May be exposed to all weather conditions including rain, wind, snow, extreme temperatures, etc.
