7th & 8th Grade Mathematics Teacher Job at Sidwell Friends School
Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school in Washington, DC, seeks a full-time 7th & 8th Grade Mathematics teacher beginning in the 2023-2024 school year.
The 7/8 Math teacher will be responsible for teaching four sections of math including some combination of these courses in any given year: 7th grade Pre-Algebra; 8th grade Algebra I. In both grades, there are two levels of each course.
The ideal candidate will be able to both support and challenge a range of Middle School students in their mathematical thinking. They will also be able to help students use and understand the reason that different mathematical processes work. An ability to teach students how to talk and write about math is also important. The full time teaching position also includes serving as an Advisor to a group of 7th and 8th grade students and delivering weekly Advisory lessons.
Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: writing student reports three times a year; annual parent-teacher conferences; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families; attendance at meetings; duties such as lunch and break duty; and collaboration with Math colleagues in the Middle School and other divisions.
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred). Applicants must also have previous teaching experience, preferably 3-5 years at minimum in a middle or high school setting.
Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus-based; therefore, this position requires teaching in person. This position begins in August 2023.
