Description

Under the direction of the Director of Financial Affairs, performs the accounting functions necessary to establish and maintain various college funds, to prepare financial statements and reports, and to maintain assigned portions of the accounting system. Work hours may include evenings.

Examples of Duties

Essential Responsibilities:

A. Performs various accounts receivable, accounts payable, and banking reconciliation tasks such as daily wire transfer receipting, register balancing, reconciling checks, daily check payment receipting, credit card reports, Enrole receipting, Nelnet reconciliation, deregistration, and prepares/allocates payments for KCC internal billings and monthly board receipts.

B. Serves as primary backup for accounting counter to assist students, staff, and community members by processing accounts receivable transactions such as cashiering student payments, answering student/staff account questions, disbursing reimbursement checks and answering customer phone calls.

C. Prepares internal and external billings for various state/federal agencies, employers, and miscellaneous sponsorships.

D. Performs financial aid transmittals, prepares information for financial aid check runs, verifies with student accounts for accuracy.

E. Reconciles monthly accounts receivable general ledger accounts, checking account transactions to assist with monthly reconciliations, reviews/reconciles third party accounts, and monitors and records fixed asset additions and disposals.

F. Performs accounting duties in a particular work area of the college with little supervision and with responsibility for the outcomes and losses from efforts while establishing and maintaining an effective filing system of all project data and work area information.

G. Demonstrates proficiency using data processing, database software programs, and other computer software programs as required; monitors and updates computerized program records; develops and maintains comprehensive computer records system.

H. Assists with preparation of financial information for the college in developing a budget and maintaining records for the department or division; gathers information for supervisor decision making; order supplies and capital items as needed.

I. Makes minor and/or preliminary decisions regarding administrative detail using judgment-based knowledge of college policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

A. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field is required or current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program with completion date within 18 months.

B. Entry level position requiring less than three years of experience.

C. Computer experience using Microsoft Office or comparable applications required. Able to use the telephone, voicemail, and email; able to manage files and perform basic functions with the current operating system; able to create, format, edit documents and spreadsheets; able to merge documents; able to create and use labels with envelopes; able to create, format; able to create data bases; able to download data bases into applications to create reports; able to create queries and extricate information for reporting. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

D. Demonstrated proficiency in English required.

E. Ability to communicate in other languages desirable.

Supplemental Information

Salary begins at an annualized rate of $50,581.
